According to one article I've read this week 25% of water if lost through leaks. Of the rest 90% is used by industry and agriculture and 10% is for domestic use.
So when the water companies introduce a hosepipe ban it saves less than 1% of total usage. :roll:

On a slightly different note my bete noire, Look North from Leeds, was virtually all about the heatwave last night.
At one point the presenter was standing in front of this caption - !HEATWAVE!.
And yes, it was in capitals and they did have the exclamation marks in.

This is pure scaremongering. Capitalised screaming headlines I've seen on the Express and Mail headlines and now the BBC is at it too.

I turned it off, it was just so OTT.

Yes, it's hot. Yes it's dry, Yes we need to be sensible about it. Leave it at that, we are not all idiots.
