Don't forget, he could survive. If he did we would have a dead man walking PM just when we need leadership. Not that he has ever offered leadership, but you get the drift.

It happened with May. She won her no confidence vote but gave up three and a half months later. The by elections on the 23rd could see the same happen again.

I'm not sure he would be "dead man walking". More a case of anyone who wrote a letter bring eviscerated. Any minister who submitted a letter is toast.

The essence here is whether MP's think they have a better chance with Boris than they do with some other joker from the reshuffled, oft tried, pack of wannabees. Remember with May it came down to nobody really wanting the job.

We will see, tonight, whether this is a few disaffected Tories who think they can get rid of Boris or a real groundswell of the party feeling they need a new leader. After all it only takes 15% to trigger the vote. It takes more than 50% to get rid of him.

He will cling to power for as long as possible. According to some senior back bench Tories there is a great deal of bullying and coercion going on, which doesn’t surprise me. Who is fit to take his place? Most of the decent Tory ministers were replaced when Boris took power.

I saw a headline in the Mail that it would take a flamethrower to prise Boris out of No. 10. I suspect that is pretty accurate, but it made me laugh out loud.

He is not going to resign. That's a fact.

As for PM Starmer? It is Starmer's to lose. Barring a small miracle it doesn't matter who the Tories put in place, they're going to lose the next election.

As for bullying? That is the job of the whips. To remind the MP's that they are not the government. The Government is, essentially, the PM and the ministers the PM puts together as a team. Parliament is there to approve, or reject, the agenda of the government. It is also their job to remind MP's that they don't just get to ditch the PM because they think their own seat is threatened. Especially when protecting their behind may tank the whole party. It is not a pleasant job but some of the whips are rather more "enthusiastic" than others.

If anyone thinks that the Labour party whips are angels they should disabuse themselves of this immediately.
