Pensioners, but not this one , oh, hang on that's half a pint, and then they ask for a portion of winkles and directions to the toilets - just in case.

Nope I still talk about pints of milk, I know a bag of sugar weighs 2.2lb. I weigh myself in stones and lbs have no idea what I am in kgs. I am 5' 3ins, no idea what that is in metres. I ask for a pound of sausages, mince, potatoes whatever.

The description on the boxes might have moved on but I certainly haven't

and yes Medsec Tim asks for a pint of beer and I have a pint of cider. I have a glass of wine and that comes in small medium or large of which I have medium

Of course they still sell milk in pints but, at the moment, they have to also be labelled in metric and must be priced for metric and not for pints. So if there was a cost per measure, as they do in France for all alcohol, it would be £ per litre not £ per pint.

As WM stated, 1 pint is 568ml. Not 500ml. I will not buy milk from a shop that sells in litres if I can possibly avoid it. Because 2l of milk is 168ml less than 2 pints of milk and 4l is 336ml less than 4 pints. That means if you start buying in litres and buy 4l you have bought 3 pints and 40% of the 4th pint.

It is not a surprise that alcohol is still in pints. They'd have to completely revamp the entire system to give you less alcohol. For the same money or more of course.

What Johnson is doing is not "saving" anything. What he is doing is deciding that vendors can sell in Either metric OR Imperial OR both. It's no big thing. Most shops will label both, some shops will go back to imperial. I notice that all milk sold in pints has a Huge number for the pints and a small number for the Litres. Probably so they can dismiss the fact that a 2pints is more than one litre.

It's not important but if people like it then go for it. It will certainly appeal to the voters that voted for him in the last election and he made a promise on it. Of course I know that not living up to promises is the norm, but, hey, it has to happen sometime.

Yes it is interesting isn't it. You think that the MP's in parliament taking over government on their own and trying to overrule a open and fair vote of the people, the foundation of our democracy, is both right and democratic.

You then believe that a leader of parliament trying to get control of his ministers and give a more consistent government is a massive threat to our democracy.

Really? And you call Johnson supporters blinkered.

As for the trade deals we are doing and why? I've explained that but you persist in ignoring what is going on and keep parroting the BS coming out of the press who didn't want to leave the EU and the rest of them who couldn't be bothered to research anything and think a valuable sound byte is deep research.

Just like this little travesty of honesty and research.

Talk about twisted "facts" and injured pride. The man is a moron but has a place in shaping the view of the country.... It's almost enough to make me avoid any of their climate stuff and they have some of the best in the business. Irritating as hell. Political ononist.

Eh? None of that stacks up.

1 pint = 568ml. I litre = 1.759 pints

2 litres is 3.52 pints and 4 litres is 7 pints.

2 pints is 1.14 litres and 4 pints is 2.3 litres.

Numbers are rounded.

Shops sell 1l and 2l in replacement for 2 pints and 4 pints.

I decline.

No they do not, it is not allowed. They sell 1l as 1l and 2l as 2l and the unit price has to be displayed in metric - £0.95 per litre, say. This is compulsory. However, the seller can offer a converted unit price in Imperial, £0.54 per pint, so long as it is less prominent, and that is optional.

If the purchaser wants to do the conversion and wrongly comes up with 1l = 2 pints that's their problem.

You can ask for a lb of this, 11/2 pints of that or 1/4 lb of the other but you are billed on their conversions to their metric equivalents and pricing. Imperial-only weights, measures and pricing are illegal.

Really?

Shops sell small middle big and, depending on the shops, really big.

Spars and the like the middle and big are 1l and 2l. They are similar to, but smaller than, 2 pint and 4 pint. There is no other volume than litres printed on them and they are priced similar to, or even higher than, equivalent pint, 2 pint and 4 pint in the larger supermarkets. If they were selling pints, but sold in Litres, they would need to say 1.14l and 2.27l. They do not, they say 1l and 2l.

It is a subliminal thing. People do not read the label when they buy milk, they look at the size of the carton and buy the one they want. When it's sold in litres they get less.

Don't try and tell me that people pick them up and read the labels and try to work it out. They don't. I buy my milk in litres here, there is no other option. Which is why I am ultra aware when I see a milk carton denoted 1l or 2l. Oh it looks almost the same size. It is not.

Like this.

Image

Of course you could go to Farmfoods and get TWO of these bottles of milk (sort of), for £1.90

Image

Your milk in Tesco is 57p a litre at the current price of £1.29. But you're getting TWO in Farmfoods for £1.90. So it's really good isn't it? Well it is cheaper, but the difference is between 47p a litre and 57p a litre. Rather than the 70p off it looks like, you are actually saving only 40p because the volume you bought was quite a bit less.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Not everyone looks at the actual package and says "That one has a 2 on it and not a 4 on it". In fact a large proportion of people who go to Farmfoods to get cheaper stuff will just look at the relative bottle sizes and pick the one they normally buy.
