Isle of Wight just recorded 92mph wind,definitely getting stronger here in Lee on Silent

Coastguard chopper was called out in the early hours headed off towards Jersey.

The weather lady also just said that Storm Franklin is in the wings due on Sunday

M4 has been declared a "no go "

Rotten luck, Vic - we had similar when we lived in Crewkerne.

Here, the weather turned exceptionally nasty around 12:00, gusts must have been well into the 80's.

And we've lost part of our fence - between us and next door, luckily, so doesn't affect security. It's our responsibility to repair and there's no insurance claimable for fences.
I think it's salvageable, but We'll wait and see what our mate Andy has to saw on the matter when we can catch him next week.

Made contact just now with the next door neighbour and reassured her it's our responsibility according to the deeds.

Oh, and one of the wheelie bins were blown over despite being up the back passage! At least the Infernal Solar Device panel on the roof seems to have survived, touch wood.
Over the other side of the main road which we can see from our back window, one house has lost a whole length of it's back garden fence.

It's a bit hit and miss.

Gusts of 122 mph on the Isle of Wight. We have a steady winds of 46 mph with gusts of 62 mph and getting stronger, yet up the road at Skipton it is steady at 16 mph with gusts in the 20s.

That is the problem with wind gusts - they can be very localised. In one street it is rooves blown off, trees felled and walls blown down, in the next street a drinking gnome is toppled.

The wind is playing havoc with TV reception making it almost unwatchable.

If you listen to the BBC its complete Armageddon. Obviously I hope all stay safe but honestly, all schools closed throughout the UK? Their reporters are all poised on sea fronts, where one actually admitted 'its not actually as bad as forecast'. Good day for Putin to slip into Ukraine, flipping BBC wouldn't notice

This is so true!
A few years ago we had a storm pass through Yorkshire. My least favourite tv programme, BBC Look North covered it.
Their fearless roving reporter Phil Bodmer was filmed standing on the sea front at Scarborough talking about the "devastation" that had struck the town.
Honestly and truthfully, he was standing next to an overturned wheelie bin!!

Not most people's definition of "devastation" I wouldn't have thought.

I just found out this afternoon that the gales have brought down a horse chestnut tree in the park at the end of our road.
It is part of an avenue of such trees which once led to Crofton Hall, before that was demolished back in the day.
It has just missed the old lodge house next to the main road.
I'll try and get some photos tomorrow.
