54% increase for energy - on top of everything else

We've noticed 50 cents, a euro here and there. Water, which we have to buy to drink has tripled We boil our water for coffees and use it for cooking, but not for drinking, even though we have massive filters. So the supermarkets have us over a barrel. And we're not alone.

Pingo have started selling their own "eco" water. Lucy had it tested, as she needs it to be crystal and found it had more rubbish than the normal bottles. Which we now can't buy there, we have to go to the other supermarket

I'm reckoning our average monthly energy standing orders will total around £138 from April. I'm absolutely fanatical about turning everything off as far as possible, including all the standbys.
I think I'll be putting the electricity DD up from £45 to £65 next month and see where we go from there. We've still got a large gas credit, and we use very little in the summer, so I'm going to keep that at £52 for now.
Although we're in a 30 yo bungalow, it's a Band E so we won't be getting the £150 rebate; nothing we can do about that.

I've noticed that most things in Waitrose costing around £1 have gone up by 10p. Campbells Condensed Soups we use as sauces have gone up from £1.05 to £1.15 and Soreen sliced Malt Loaf (my breakfast!) from £1.20 to £1.30.
So I'll be down as Asda soon (Aldi don't do these brands) to see what their prices are. The days of buying in bulk when special offers are on are back with a vengeance - our spare bedroom has more cardboard boxes than Arkwrights Corner Shop!

Waitrose have also announced they are terminating their "free daily paper if you spend over £10 offer" in a couple of week's time, so we will have even less incentive to go there in future. I am waiting to see what sort of "c'mon" offers their revamped Waitrose Card membership will be offering going forward - I think it might operate more like a Tesco ClubCard in future; we'll have to see. I'm very suspicious of Waitrose's current Membership Card offers - often when you look at them, they're not worth a penny.

Often noticed Ossie, that the Pingo prices are so high, that when something is discounted, its a normal price in either Aldi or Lidl. Both of which are about an hours drive away..

So taking that in account, we're stuck.

I do not see any of you saying that you will be paying energy bills of £164.25 - month on month - throughout the year as the Resolution Foundation claims. You might pay something near in Nov to Feb, inclusive, but it will drop in Spring and Autumn and fall off a cliff from May to Aug, inc.

What will your averages and totals be for the year even with the rises? The headlines are click bait.

And I found this table. on 'food' prices from last week. Have a look. It is much nearer than the scare stories in the media as it contains most things we buy regularly - no sofas, floorings, jewellery or second hand cars.
