What is the point of them?

I had to download one as I was going to the NEC yesterday and it said either proof of vaccination via an NHS covid pass or a negative lateral flow test. I downloaded my covid pass with its QR code which I presumed they would scan and whittled as to whether it would work and would I need ID? I was in a queue of about 5 people. There were two people checking chatting away. I stood there and he handed me a green wrist band, as I took it he said, covid pass, I flashed my phone and off I went. That could have been screen shot from anyones phone. I then put my green wrist band in my pocket and expected to be asked for it at the door, but no. What a pointless exercise.

Either do it or dont, but stop pretending.

I would add it was pretty much empty, as I said there were only five of us split between two queues, if they cant do it properly there, then there really is no hope it will ever be done properly

What is the point of them?

The point of them is that in the long run they will be used to control your movements, imo.
I really don't think they are much to do with Covid.

ps, For a fact MM at some football matches they know that the crowd wouldn't be able to show their covid pass and get all the crowd into the ground on time, so they are letting lots of fans in unchecked. So what's the point anyway?

We’ve never had our passes checked.
I think it was October that they were required for large events, or at least United communicated that they’d be doing spot checks from then. We’ve been to all but one of the home games this season and neither of us have been asked to produce a pass and I don’t know anyone who has.

We’re up again on Saturday (that’s the plan at the moment anyway unless the positive cases in the squad increases) so I’ll update after then.

We went to the FA Cup game on Monday night. From what I’ve read people’s experiences seem different from turnstile to turnstile, but at ours there was a steward carefully checking passes before you were searched.
There was a couple in front of me, probably in their 50s, and he checked the woman’s pass but the man didn’t have one. First they said it was in the car, then that he’d left his phone in the hotel room but he’d definitely definitely definitely got a pass (I bet he hadn’t!) but not actually on his person so could he please go in on the strength of that.
They were turned away.

Taking it very seriously then. Fair enough.
I wonder how long this is going to go on for ... as WM says elsewhere, it might all become academic if restrictions are lifted at the end of the month.

Yes, I see that the papers have now got the story as well as the 24hr news channels. Plan B runs out on the 26th and only masks in some settings will be kept.
