Why did most of the world do much the same?

If only the damned virus had listened to us and not mutated. We could all be partying like it's 1999.

Javid said one million cases "by the month's end", NOT one million per day. And I can find no mention of anyone saying 200,000 to 600,000 per day except the nut jobs on social media. They have overlaid global predictions or those from the likes of India (pop ~1.4 billion) onto the UK.

The above examples are just as destructive as those from the MSM, both agendas as bad as each other.

Thanks, Kaz.

Prof Neil Ferguson said it was “almost inevitable” that Monday’s final phase of unlocking would bring on 100,000 daily cases, with about 1,000 hospitalisations – despite roughly half the UK being fully vaccinated. He added that he could foresee a situation in which the case rate expands to twice the size.

“The real question is do we get to double that – or even higher,” he told BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday,. “And that’s where the crystal ball starts to fail. I mean, we could get to 2,000 hospitalisations a day, 200,000 cases a day – but it’s much less certain.”

Nobody ever. Called him on this. It was pure fear mongering to try and stop the unlocking back in June.

It was the basis for the wild suppositions of more.

I mean, if someone with his pedigree can make these wild claims, then why not push it further.

We have not reached the "almost inevitable" cases yet and we have a daily rate of hospitalisations well below the level stated.

We do, however, have a fairly stable level of 1,000 serious cases. Total, not daily.

Is it any wonder people are sick of it?

Sick of the lies, absolutely.
I think you're wasting your time with rationality though Suff.
Omicron could / might / possibly / maybe / perhaps put more people in hospital and kill five million people every day.
So every time that there is a new variant which could / might / possibly / maybe / perhaps "evade vaccines " or be a "super mutant" let's just shut the country down, bankrupt businesses, throw thousands and thousands of people out of work, ruin children's education, kill cancer sufferers and make every NHS waiting list 20 miles long.
You can't be too careful.
Absolute joke.

Love it. I know, let's link an opinion piece by a disgraced modeller from July 2021 to support our position from a time when Delta was not even a variant on the horizon, never mind Omicron. Keep grasping.

BTW: How are those 20:20 foresight crystal ball glasses working?

I am hoping for the Euro Millions numbers for next week, or anytime in the future; please help. Cheers.

I see.

I link a piece from a scientist who has been trotted out time and again, by the government and it is an opinion piece.

Word to the wise. The Only statements which were not "opinion pieces" were when Bojo stood up and said he would only reintroduce lock downs when the data dictated it.

The next time we have a global pandemic, they will be able to make moderately accurate statements.

Today it is all "opinion" and the opinions have rarely been correct.

They are now admitting to some hospitalisations from Omicron.

But until we have full details - age, ethnicity, location and vaccination status being key - we simply can't make any form of judgement.

It is being said, as an aside, that one distinguishing feature of Omicron is "body pain". I am not sure what this means.

Just watched Boris's latest turn.

"There is a tidal wave coming!!!!".
Of something that doesn't kill you.

"So I'm asking you for another tremendous effort ".
Heard that one before.

"We are going to have to cancel some NHS treatments".
Oh, NOW I get it. The NHS can't cope - again.

Looking at the Covid graph here, it is not hard to understand that something had to be done.

We simply do not know enough about omicron to do nothing. If the figures keep going up the way they have been we could not wait till the review on the 19th.

ETA: Just looking at some of the figures coming out.

Apparently the over 18s thing means some 23 million of us will have (hoped) to be boosted by the end of the month. That will mean an almost tripling of the current booster rate - immediately. It needs to be nearly 1.3 million a day, every day.

The deadline looks tight - very, extremely, tight - even with refuseniks taken into account.

It won't make that much difference in the short term. The booster needs to work for a few weeks before it is fully effective.

It is hard to know the numbers with the weekend lull on deaths. However, they are lower than last weekend.

Tonight Boris admits we have hospital cases with omicron and one death.

The problem is with an estimated 40% of all new cases in London being Omicron they feel the need to take action.

It will take several weeks of numbers before they can be certain about Omicron.

By which time any opportunity, if it existed, will be gone.

Such is life.
