There are now three dead and a possible 100 injured, some having lost one or both legs.

Absolutely terrible. Why are there nasty people in this world? The marathon started with a silent period in reflection of the sandy hook victims, then ends with this.

Mine too - it is just appalling, and one of the dead might well be an 8yr old boy according to unconfirmed reports..................whatever possesses people to do such evil things?

I don't get it either... such a senseless act of violence again totally innocent people.

My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones and I hope the injured all pull through and get the physical and emotional support they're going to need. So very sad

One aspect of Boston greatly worries me and that is the nearby secondary explosion, with possibly more to follow. It was something we were warned about when I was in the Forces. Thankfully they are rare.

However, we cannot stop holding these events or "they" win. What we need to do is make clear to those who do these things, or attempt to do them, that they will be put away till the end of their days with the very minimum of their human rights catered for.

It certainly is.
One report says that a Saudi national is in custody but I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere else.
I would have these people in front of a firing squad, I'm afraid. If found guilty they would be marched straight out of the courthouse door and shot. No decades of appeals, no fame and notoriety, no endless appeals.

Allegedly there were two more devices that were found and secured before they could go off. Not sure if it was because of the quick response of the emergency services to block all radio signal communications to prevent any additional remote detonations or not but thank goodness they were found.

I agree; IF INDEED this was an attack by an Islamic Fundamentalist then we should treat them as their law would, eye for an eye and their law would have them executed without much delay; because I can guarantee that few of the victims would settle for blood money

I just hope that the current American mindset i.e. all terrorists and bombers have to be Islamists, is not applied on this straight away as it could hamstring the initial investigation - it could very well be a homegrown attack. When the Oklahoma bombing happened, the Americans initially looked eastwards and it took a little while for them to realise that the bomber was one of their own. You can see the US media already heading in the direction of Islam with the talk of "a dark skinned man" being sought, which rather ignores the fact that America is a racial mix with skins of all colours.

I don't understand how anyone can do this, never yet heard an IRA bomber explain how they can live with themselves after causing such untold horror. I know it's slightly off topic, a woman was convicted here last week of the murder of a totally innocent family man who she thought was part of a rival branch of some IRA offshoot - and not only was she proud of what she did (even though the man she murdered had no political affilliations at all, she had wrong information) but her father was quoted as saying that he was as proud of her now as he was the day she was born I have a friend living in Boston and emailed her last night, but she was not in the city thank goodness. Another friend has just got a job over there, but I saw he was on FB last night, so presume he is ok.
