Seriously? They are pretty good kids anyway - and food is a given. Uni is complicated in the UK now - the government pay the tuition fees up front and for accommodation fees the kids get either a loan (which has to be paid back) or a grant (which doesn't) depending on how much the parents earn..................loans including tuition fees to be paid back by the student, once they start earning ;)

Mine already have some jobs that they do happily (or sometimes not quite so happily).

Laying and clearing the table, walking the dog, making their beds, putting their clean clothes away and they are looking forward to going back to cooking dinner on a Saturday now the kitchen is useable again.

I want them to start doing more jobs and as the tick chart was their idea I thought I would go with it.

So far they have 3 ticks each. They decided that everything should be worth 1 tick and they came up with the jobs that should be on the list.

L has made Mick and I a cup of coffee, cleaned the bathroom sink and hoovered upstairs. S has cleaned the lounge windows, hung out the washing and hoovered downstairs.

Weka..did you mean the children would get a hot meal on the table if they done their jobs? :? :o

Or for them to have prepared a meal once they had done their jobs?

Mine would've starved if it had been the first one!

Cor - Mick would waste away to nothing if I linked his hot meals to getting his jobs done!

I must have had a tough mum then. :?
If our chores weren't done, our dinner went in the fridge, to be reheated in the microwave. Same went if we weren't home for tea at 6, even on the days my job finished at 6:30. If my clothes weren't in the laundry, then I had to wash them myself, by hand, not machine. Pocket money was $8 a week, but we lost $3 for a messy room. Mum refused to pay my tertiary tuition, as she thought I would muck around. (I graduated with honours), my brother had his paid on a pro-rata basis for each paper passed. (He's still to graduate, oh, and he's older than me) my tuition cost me AUS$15,000.
I could go on...

Looking back it doesn't seem that harsh, but maybe it was?

Probably harsher than the norm Weka, but it doesn't seem to have done you any harm, but then you come across as very resilient ;)
