I'm going to sit down with them tomorrow to draw up the list - I am going to let them decide how many ticks they get for which job. Then on Monday I might buy the first prize and put it somewhere they can see it!

First prize - a bottle of nail varnish. Second prize - a small bar of chocolate.

I think I will do two prizes each time as that might help keep them going.

However, I am pretty sure that after the first prize has been given the enthusiasm will wear off and no further prizes will be needed!

How about linking the ticks to pocket money? They have to earn so many ticks to get it, and x number of ticks above the going rate = so many more dollars.

Extra ticks if the job is done without you having to ask them to do it

They already get pocket money which I don't intend on increasing so I don't want to link it to money. They seem quite content with having a small prize at the end so I'll stick with that.

Di, if you lived in our house, with our children, you would understand perfectly. 'Bins' tended to be whatever floor space was available.

Mine use the bins in their rooms but never think to actually empty them

Can't think of anything else, I know your bin collection system is a bit different but does a bin have to be brought back to the house from the collection point? Maybe that could earn a tick if so?

Tom negotiated an extra £5 pocket money a month last Summer for doing jobs - they were both getting £20 a month. He'd cut the lawns and clean the car for instance.
Joe's trying to get John to let him clean the car and is charging a flat rate of £5!! They were only charging £2.99 down at the garden centre to hand wash them last week

I can't wait till my slaves are older. The 3 year old already clears the table and helps to feed the cats. The youngest is another story, even though he's only two, missey was already doing so much more than he does.

I have a boredom jar. It's 50/50 chores and fun stuff. But thn sweep something could be leaves into a pile to play in, the kitchen floor, or sand in the sandpit. I made them broad deliberately.

Is it really too late? Wouldn't the incentives just be different? X number of ticks = a percentage of tuition fees. (Which I presume you were going to pay anyway) or a hot meal on the dinner table that night if all before school jobs were done. Would that work? I have no idea.
