Didn’t hear that, thank goodness, we watch on Irish tv because the English commentators are just not listenable, but that is disgraceful and I would certainly make a complaint, Shell. Their jingoism is unbelievably annoying. At least some of today’s papers are mentioning the very dodgy penalty although not the earlier own goal.

It was a cretinous remark but all too typical of the hysterical bs that has surrounded the England team.
If they win (and they well might) then well done but don't expect me to dance in the street or demand that every member of the team plus Gareth Southgate (the Vicar of Wokely) receive a knighthood.
I'm glad other people are turned off by the biased commentary and apocalyptic nationalism flying around right now.
I'll be glad when it's all over.

OMG I am so annoyed!! Seems quite a few local primary schools are allowing pupils to come in late on Monday, given the 8pm kick off on Sunday

So the message is “you can sleep in late if there’s a football match the day before “ Speechless

Meanwhile working parents, those that have a sense of responsibility now have a battle on their hands with children that think football is more important than getting your bum in gear and going to school.

What with snow days, football days, what sort of message are we giving our youngsters

School being disrupted isn’t really a new thing, Tom was at infant school when Japan held the World Cup in 2002 and the games were often played around breakfast time here so they could either go into school as normal and watch on the TV in the hall or watch at home and go into school for 10.

I can’t get cross about it though, I took Joe to Manchester for a trophy parade on a school day in 2013.

But that was the World Cup Jo and maybe I could feel slightly more benevolent about the World Cup, this is the Euro's which is my humble opinion isn't particularly anything special.

We've all taken our children out of school for things, parental choice is one thing, being told laying in bed because you've had a late night is another thing entirely. But again in my opinion

What I cannot get my head round is why the game is being played at 8pm (9pm CET). What is wrong with the more traditional 3pm kick off? Even if it went to extra time and penalties the whole thing could be done and dusted by not much after 6pm - no need for late nights, later buses and trains or pub extensions.
