Yay, I sold my old fish tank...

Postby meriad » 11 Apr 2013, 20:14

It was too 'advanced' for me, I just never quite got the hang of it and it was just too chunky for where I had it in the lounge. Therefore it was relegated to the shed and that's where it's been for probably close on a year. I finally decided to try and do something about it and advertised it on GumTree and today (15 days or so after placing the ad) someone came to look at it and bought it. I now just hope and pray it doesn't leak when they put water in it! I'm sure overwintering wouldn't have damaged the seals but you never know (so I better hold on to the cash for a few weeks ;-) )

I'm just glad it's out of my way now and I got some £10 less that what I was hoping for :) - I'm happy And best of all the person who bought it had the same type before so knows how it all works - it is a very good tank, just not for me

That's good news Ria, I bet it's cleared a fair bit of space in your shed - fingers crossed it doesn't leak.

I've been in our garage today and noticed a couple of large storage boxes of Playmobil containing the airport, a plane, a fire engine, a digger, a coach and a bin lorry. All belonged to Joe and haven't had much use, he was more into his Lego, so they're in lovely condition. I did think about getting John to load them into the car and take them to the charity shop but then thought that the two little boys next door might like them, well the youngest will when he's old enough - they're 4 and 1 - so texted their Mom to see if she wanted them and she was thrilled to bits that I'd offered so I'll drop them around tomorrow.

I'm sure the 4 year old will love it - and the best thing about playmobil is, you can put it into a laundry net and give it a good wash :D

My younger niece and nephew got a whole lot of the stuff from their cousins a few years older and they quite enjoyed it (although they do prefer lego ;) )

I've got a few more things in the shed that I was going to sell at a car boot sale, but they've been in the shed since I moved here which will be 6 years in August so I may as well dig it out and see what can be given away / sold differently instead

Oh that's great Ria, and Jo much nicer to pass stuff on to people you know :D

I've talked Mick into getting a mini skip to clear our garage 8-) We've only been here 10 months for goodness sake but somehow it is heaving, and I can get rid of some house stuff at the same time

I'm thinking of doing the same - probably not quite as much as a mini skip, but one of the smaller hippo bags - it's amazing just how quickly junk accumulates.

That sounds like a good idea Kaz and Ria. It's amazing how quickly stuff accumulates isn't it? I know at our old house we spent 16 years just saying "Oh, just shove it up the loft".

Oh, and the Playmobil has gone down very well! :D

Brilliant, it is worth getting one and getting rid of everything in one go. One of our neighbours had one for their garage last week and I had a text one day asking if we had anything to go in it so we managed to get rid of a broken sledge and a broken basketball hoop and stand which were waiting to go to the tip

Good news on the fish tank ria.

We have a trailer for the car, large garage inside the house and the Decheterie (skip), is about 500m away. So everything that is not being sold is put in the trailer and taken to the skip. Mainly by me.

What we tend to do for selling stuff is give it to our middle daughter to sell on eBay or locally and then she spends the money on the grandchildren. Our biggest issue is time and we prefer not to throw stuff out, but selling it in France is more of a challenge as I can't understand them and Mrs S has great difficulty understanding them on the phone as she partially lip reads.

Always good to get a clean out... Although we have walls and floorboards to take out of the house next door so that we can start building the living room. Then the builders will make a doorway out of the 3 foot thick wall between the two houses, dining to living room and they have to take a chimney down.....

More runs to the skip... I see another 9 years of drudgery.... Worth it in the end though. We're almost finished with the kitchen. I'm posting the pictures on the other machine.
