I am fuming now. MY friend contacted me on Facebook and said Mencap are always after clothes so I said ok come and collect them. He text me to say collected and thank you and I said 'what do you do with them?" Oh we sell them on by weight.

What part of my original question did the numpty not understand?

That is an almost unworn pair of leather boots, a brand new Gant cardigan Tim inherited and didn't like and an almost new Regatta waterproof coat gone as rags that could have made a nice sum for a charity shop.

I am so bloody cross as well, both with myself and Mencap.

I meant to post that when I was doing Literacy and Numeracy training I used to go into a few charity shops. In all of them any bags delivered to the shop were sorted for saleable items and 'other'. But like many I assumed the same happened to charity bags.

From now on I will only put 'rags' in the bags.

The ones that come through the door from eg AgeUK are clearly marked that they're for stock for the shops; they will be sorted and the rubbish will be sold by weight, but the rest is for shop stock.

Didn't know abut mencap but the dodgy ones are not charity names that are familiar or have shops, they're just companies trying to look like it's for charity. On the bag somewhere will be something like 'collect plc have been authorised by x charity to collect, and a percentage will go to them', or something like that - I haven't got any here at the moment to look at because those get thrown away.
Mostly we take our stuff to the shops ourselves but sometimes put some in the ageuk bags for collection.

Also of course if you take it to the shops then you can register for Gift Aid if you're a taxpayer, which means the shop gets a lot more money

There is nothing dodgy going on, he is Chairperson of our local mencap, I just didn't want such good quality stuff being sold as weight, when it would make much more money for an actual shop. After all a brand new Regatta coat weighs next to nothing, but someone might pay £5 for it

I didn't say Mencap was dodgy MM, but like you would have expected the decent stuff to be taken to the shop

Oh what a shame!!!!! Next time I'd take it direct to a charity shop of your choice Shell - no room for misunderstanding that way ((((x))))
