Photographs

We were discussing photographs the other day. Mick hates digital cameras with a passion and, on the few occasions he does take photos, he uses his Cannon with the 35mm films.

One of the reasons that he doesn't like them is because, he says, you never look at the photos afterwards and in a way, he is right.

I remember the pleasure of going and fetching your little envelope of photos from Boots after they had been processed and passing them round for your friends and family to see - chopped off heads and out of focus landscapes and all.

Now, I take most of the photos on my phone. They then get automatically downloaded onto the laptop when I plug it in to charge it and no one really looks at them!

A few years ago I had some little flip books printed from Truprint and they were fabulous. I think I had 4 done - one of our holiday in Brugge, one of our holiday in Crete, one of our birthdays and Christmas and then one of various photos throughout the year. I only did it the once, probably back in 2006 or thereabouts.

So I have decided to have some more done. I am currently in the process of downloading ALL my photos onto Truprint (it doesn't cost anything to do that and amazingly, when I went on and looked the photos that I downloaded all those years ago are still there).

I can then take my time going through them and will do at least one photo book per year. You can do quite a few things with the photos and put captions, etc on them. I might also do a book each for both sets of parents with photos of the girls in - although I will probably save them and do them for Christmas.

What do you do with your digital photos once you have downloaded them?

I take loads of digital photos and a couple of times a year I go through them all and pick out favourites, download them onto a memory stick and take that into Asda to have them developed. I probably have around 500 developed every year, give or take depending of course on what we've all been doing, where we've been going. It's pretty cheap to have them done in bulk, around £10 for 200. They then get put into albums.
Oh, and I always download them onto my laptop and back them up on the desktop and also onto an external hard drive.

I keep mine in folders on the laptop and use Faststone Image viewer to rename and resize them in bulk.

If I want prints I do what Jo does and download them to a memory stick and go to Asda.

I need to get an external hard drive I think. That was something else we were talking about - I only store mine on a memory stick. Not particularly safe!

In fact I will post on the computers board for advice.
