Random question about sheds

Sheds in front gardens, yes or no?

My front garden is quite big, but north east facing and it doesn't get much sun and I spend very little time in it. So I'm thinking of moving my shed from the back garden to the front one, but I honestly don't think I've ever seen a shed in a front garden... could I, or does that go against some unwritten rule?

I've never seen a shed in a front garden either come to think of it. In the old days such a thing would probably have been regarded as "bad form"!

Ho no may be it's a old fashioned thing like you wouldn't put a washing line in the front garden
But then again maybe these days anything goes but it wouldn't be very secure would it

I don't thonk a shed in the front garden is very practical. Birsd resting on it and has been mentioned-security.

Have a sort out and only keep what you need. Then get a new smaller one which should stop you accumulating stuff.

thanks all - my front garden is fairly secure and surrounded by a 6ft fence (and Saundra, shhhhhh don't tell - but I do have my washing line there ). But then it is a very odd set up and you can't actually see into the garden from the road. - working back from the road I have:

road / pavement / tall hedge (which because of a slope is about 7ft on the road side and 5ft my side) / lawn area about 8ft wide / then a 6ft fence / then my garden.....

I originally didn't fence all the way to the hedge as I was thinking of putting in off road parking but that just proved too expensive so now have this odd lawn area that I'm going to convert into a wildlife patch

The fenced part of the front garden is about 8 fence panels long and 4 wide; so whilst not huge - also not small

You could pretty it up, so it's not just a working shed. Have a window with curtains, make it look like a wendy house. Bits of trim around the roof, stuff like that.

Ria, I would check with the local council. Some places have restrictions about what can be erected in front of the building line, a shed, though a temporary structure, might fall within the rules.

In the old house we wanted an ornamental, but fake, covered well / bird bath / planter thing in the centre of the front garden. It had to be no more than x ft by x ft wide (dia) and under 6' 3" at its highest point.

It would be safer to do that than put one up and have some NIMBY complain. Or would that be a NIYFY (Not in Your Front Yard)?

Thinking a bit more practically....

Could you not get a bike / wheelie bin store, something like this?

It is big enough for a mower, tools, planters, bags of compost / feed etc., and is low enough for the roofline to sit well below the height of the fence. Sit it on the outer fence looking in then camouflage it from the sides with some clematis, honeysuckle, rambling roses or other climbers that withstand shade.

It could be a spring project along with the wildflower garden.
