I agree WM.

In the US the Democrats virtually refused to accept Trump's election, spitting feathers when he beat Hillary Clinton.
He was accused of colluding with Russia to win the election and impeached. He never got one day's fair treatment in the liberal media. I know that this is not a popular opinion on here.
But then he's taken it one step further by refusing to admit that he has been beaten, and inciting his supporters on until they storm the Capitol building.

This is only happening because people have lost faith in the fairness of the democratic process in the USA. Back in the 70's or 80's Americans would have never believed that someone would try and "steal" an election. Now some do (and some don't).

We don't want to go down that road; we need something better.

Back in the 70's and 80's even the Democrats believed in lighter government than the US has today.

Also the events post 9/11 and the actions taken to remove rights from citizens created a lot of resentment and a lack of trust.

If you took an American Democrat from the 70's and dropped him/her into 2020, they would find it impossible to reconcile their party. Republicans would have an easier time but they would refuse to believe the split in the party and the attempts to woo the Democratic voters.

The US is a country in political transition and people are not taking it well. We have already had that transition and it didn't go down so well here either. Witness our total suspicion with our own politicians and their almost total lack of integrity.

I see that Democrats are about to file for Trump's impeachment on Monday.

I originally thought that with only a week to go this was just gesture politics, but no. Even if he serves his term before his impeachment trial takes place and then loses, as is likely, he would lose benefits granted to former presidents, and senators could vote to bar him permanently from public office.

I am not sure how such a move will go down with the people at such a fractious time.

For those suspicious of a steal, it would cement their belief and drive them over the edge.

They would believe that this move would be purely to try and block a Trump presidency in 2025.

Not a good move IMHO. They just need to let it go now, they have won and Trump has no hope of being nominated for the 2024 election.

If they try to keep pushing it, they could really drive trouble.
