Sinking ship! Rats! JUMP!

Postby Workingman » 13 Nov 2020, 14:44

In a 24 hr period it is announced that the unstAbel perambulating haystack, Mr Mop-Head, is to lose Lee Cain (who?) and Demonic sCummings from his team. Then there are the not so fabulous Baker boys (another old mate) along with the chair of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady, chuntering on about lockdowns and forming alliances. The Lords are also against him and have roped in 50 or so rebels in the HoC, including former Tory PMs, over his amended withdrawal bill.

Rumour has it that behind a lot of this upheaval is his latest girlfriend, Carrie Symonds: well there's a thing.

Remind me, how many votes did she get in the last General Election and which seat does she hold in the HoC? Although I tend to agree with her re the above, sharing a sofa with Bunter in No 10 does not, or should not, give her any right to be participating in decision making in a matter of State.

Three wheels on the wagon.....

Anyone seen or heard from Mark Francois MP for Rayleigh & Wickford? Has he got the other wheel?

I think MF might just be keeping his head down, apparently there is an injunction on the reasons why!

Didn't Carrie use to be an aide of Johnson's before she got the dubious honour of sharing his bed? :? I just wonder why she's had a hand in ousting Cain and Cummings when she must know Boris relies on them so heavily! :| :?: I have my suspicions

Yup. Only his sock puppet, Dim, remains.

Dim and Dom the flip-flop men.

It was a hell of an ask to take on the challenge of being more useless than Ant and Deck, but they did it with room to spare.

Hey Carrie hmmm, what's your game now, can anybody play. ;)

 Excellent!

Not sure on her wanting a way out, I honestly think she would just walk if she wanted out of the relationship - if that's what you meant? My thoughts are she's either paying him back for erm....reasons best left (cue violins), OR she's genuinely worried about BoJo's health, wants him to resign, and thinks this will tip it :?:  :geek:

That is an interesting point. It is fair to say that since leaving his Covid bed he has not looked in the best shape, physically, nor in the clarity of his thoughts, deeds and words.

It has been passed off as bluff and bluster but maybe it goes deeper. Maybe he does need a rest, for his health's sake. In that sense Carrie could be trying to protect him and I would not criticise her for that.

Interesting. Imo there are two (or three) parts to this.
Firstly Cummings. His departure comes on the heels of trump losing the US election, and doubtless "progressives" in the west now see a return to the good old days. I'm not so sure about that. If the conditions that led to the rise of Trump and Brexit are the same (and I think they are) then Trump or someone like him will be back on the scene.
In some ways it's a shame Cummings has gone. He wanted to reform the civil service and the BBC and a whole lot of people feel exactly the same way. The Sir Humphreys are well overdue a reduction and the funding model of the BBC is inexcusable in the 21st century. With Cummings gone reform of either looks less likely. Unfortunately to achieve difficult challenges like those you need some person skills, and it doesn't look like Cummings had any.

I actually feel sorry for Johnson. In a few months he's had a divorce, a new child, won the Conservative party leadership election, won a General Election and then had to deal with Brexit and the pandemic, which nearly killed him.
Plus, the Tory party has always (it seems to me anyway) been a snake pit. Margaret Thatcher was one of their most successful PM's but when it looked like she would lose the next election - boom! She was knifed quicker than you can say scat.
And in the Tory party now you have the ancient "grandees" like Heseltine and Major being dug up to rubbish the government at every opportunity, plus the people who Johnson beat in the leadership election - Jeremy Hunt, Graham Brady and most especially Theresa May - wanting to stick the boot in.
May lost the Conservatives majority in her only election. Johnson gained an 80 seat majority. Theresa May, it seems to me, is Ted Heath to Johnson's Thatcher. A monument to bitterness and spite, determined to hang around on the back benches for as long as possible, causing trouble.
Many of Johnson's "friends" in the party would happily oust him for the chance of getting the top job, especially snakes like Michael Gove, who is to loyalty what Count Dracula is to kindliness.
As I've said earlier I'm sure Johnson won't lead the Tories into the next election.
Which leaves them with a problem, because he's the best (only?) vote winner they have.

Never mind, it's a much needed good laugh for many of us during these depressing times.

That's the problem. The people you mention very likely can imagine themselves as PM, everyone else would probably find it harder to imagine. Especially Grant Shapps who is imo an oaf.
It is a pretty fair mess atm. There are still more remain than leave MP's and Johnson has always been more popular in the country than inside the Conservative party. So given that and the barely concealed animosity of Brady, May, Hunt et al and the ambition of the Goves of this world they may easily plot and scheme their way out of power.

Governments nowadays tend to last until the electorate thinks that it is time to let the other side have a go.
The Conservatives ruled from 1979-1997, Labour from 1997-2010. Eighteen years and thirteen years respectively.
By the time of the next election, say 2024, the Conservatives will have been in for fourteen years. If they continue as they are they will lose that election.

A far as Carrie goes, yes she could be acting because she is concerned for Boris' health - but she could also be a bit of a Lady Macbeth, who knows?!
