We are conflating two different things - the easing of the lockdown and the current reaction to it, and the senior special advisor to the PM breaking the original regulations (enforceable by law) he himself helped to formulate and put in place.

I have already said that I am all for (some) easing of the lockdown so long as it is done in stages and not rushed. What we are now seeing from the public is the reaction to that first phase of easing, which took place on the 13th of May. I have no problem with that. I can continue to look after myself as best I can.

But let's not forget that today's regulations are light-years away from those initially installed on the 24th of March and that if we all 'do a Dom' they could come back in spades.

WM, the press is the issue.

Government is useless and people are dying sells papers and makes profits.

I want to see the follow up on testing. Sorry you can't see that because after a bumpy start the UK is well in the way to being the best in Europe.

I want to see the comparison between how our government response is being viewed by the people and how other countries efforts are viewed by the people.

But, no, I can't see that because it will be a positive story for our government.

But I can hear All about how one of the PMs senior advisors didn't obey the lock down.

Now as I recall, it was Cummings who was backing herd immunity and we set out to do just that. Now, when we were forced into lock down by the devolved governments, it is no surprise that Cummings was dirisive of the lock down.

Want to see that in the press?? Go to another country because it won't sell in the UK.

There is virtually nothing in the press, today, that I take notice of on Covid, other than actual government action.

The rest? Believe what you want.

Where is the press challenging Sturgeon for changing her position 180deg to counter the UK government when any statement is released. Do you even remember that Scotland was going to start unlocking earlier than England but when the UK position was to start ending early, it changed to Scotland. Ending later.

Press calling her out?

No, we can hear about Cummings, Mr herd immunity, is derisive of the lockdow.

Whatever.

I have no idea whether Dominic Cummings has managed to put some spin on the account of his journey to Durham or not, but to be honest there were far too many journalists interrogating him ad infinitum on the same points. How many times can you answer the same question? All that was missing was Karen from Facebook giving him a piece of her mind. There comes a point when members of the public might start to think it looks like a witch hunt.

I still don't get why what Dominic did or didn't do influences us? By now we know what we should and shouldn't be doing, don't we?

If people are selfish or stupid enough to choose some feeble excuse for breaking the rules like "well Miss he did it" they would have broken the rules anyway and probably have been doing since the beginning.

Suff, with all due respect the issue is that one of the most influential members in society was telling 56 million of us to do this that and the other or be heavily fined for not obeying and him then going off and doing his own thing. That's it.

All of the other stuff is deflection, froth and diversion.

I remember Stephen Kinnock visiting his parents for a birthday party just as the lockdown kicked in. He is a Labour backbencher of no real political power as they are a neutered opposition with and have an 80 seat deficit. He was slaughtered for doing so by the same people who are now excusing and even supporting Cummings for doing so much worse.

These people, the Cummings supporters, embarrass themselves.

Kinnock can be removed by his constituents, Cummings cannot be removed by any of us. Notice the difference?
