The government was in shambles, the country scrambling to catch up. You see there had been a couple of decades of relative peace and nobody was organised.

Contrast today. Nearly 80 years with no real crisis to deal with. Not only is nobody prepared, there is almost nobody left who can even remember what it was like the last time we had a catastrophe.

Truth. It is very telling that the only nations who were really prepared were those like Taiwan and South Korea, who had been touched by SARS.

Nah, we are about to be re-sloganised: "Stay Alert>Control the Virus>Save Lives."

Then we are going to get a brand spanking new virus alert system. It will have five levels between 1=green and 5=red - so it's not a traffic lights system. And we are apparently somewhere between levels 3 and 4, according to the Johnson - so it actually has levels with steps, but we don't know how many steps between each level; clear?

Different towns, cities and regions can all be at different levels (steps) at the same time. Lancashire could be 'wear hazmat at all times' when Yorkshire is 'picnic land'. And Javid has suggested that age could also be used as well - over 70s, stay under the duvet, under 30, it's party time.

The British Retail Consortium says that shops should reopen if they are 'safe', which is helpful, or not. There is no definition of what 'safe' means nor who decides.

At the moment if a group goes to the park and spreads out couple of blankets to sit on they can be fined £60, even if they are all 2m apart, because it is not essential. At the same time airlines can pack people into enclosed canisters and fly them hundreds of miles so that they can go to the beach and spread out couple of blankets to sit on, and that's fine.

When those people return we are soon going to force them into quarantine just in case they have caught the plague, but only after they have travelled home by taxi, bus, coach / train, taxi. The fact that they might be returning form safer places than the UK where another 8,000 might have caught it whilst they were away is neither here nor there nor that it's implementation is about seven weeks too late.

But relax - the message is clear: "we are on top of this".

A fish and chip shop near us has announced it is re-opning this week. Will only allow two customers in the shop at any one time.
It will do a oaring trade as it was always busy before lockdown. It is too far away for us as the fish and chios would be cold by the time we got home.

There is a another good on e much closer which we sometimes use.

I was contacted by the Israeli friend my son made in Argentina. He helped my son by giving him money on the promise of a western union transfer.

Since I got my son out, I have been helping him with money transfers and advice.

Today he contacted me about taxis from Heathrow. It appears he is isolated in a hotel in Sao Paolo and will fly into Heathrow tomorrow. He then transfers to Luton and flies out again on Wednesday. It seems to be the only way he could get home, his embassy was not as helpful as the UK one was for me and my son.

I made him aware of the impending isolation restrictions and have suggested that he check with his embassy in London before leaving.

It is looking like he will be able to make it without having to isolate, but I want him to be fully aware so he is not stuck the way my son was.

I'll let you know how it went.

And Mr Mop-Head has gathered around him a fine group of them to 'lead' us.

Ain't we the blessed ones?

"Screwed 'r us."

It's another slogan based on the number three, the Cons do like them, there's quite a long list.

Today we hear that the recruiting for contact tracers has been suspended due to "delays" with the app.

I am so unsurprised I didn't even twitch, let alone raise, an eyebrow.

More mixed messages.

The other day Gove said, on record, that 17,000 of the 18,000 tracers required had already been selected.

Then came reports that only 1,500 had and that recruitment was on hold.

Rumours abound that the NHSX app is to be ditched in favour of the Apple- Google app.

Then today the IoW MP said the app that tracks COVID-19 has exceeded all expectations with a take-up of 65%. How he knows this is a mystery.

It was all going to be up and running in England by mid-May and that was this weekend.

I cannot find any reports anywhere saying that many millions of us, the sorts of numbers needed for it to work, have downloaded the damned thing.

Surprised? Not me.

The IoW take up was, apparently, 65%. I assume based on the mobile ownership on the IoW. That I can believe.

The rest? If they choose to believe NHS IT staff about delivery times, well, more fool them.

Now put back until June, according to the Gardian.

Not the biggest surprise in the world.
