And 5,000 is a magic number because?

Why not make it 50 or 50,000 or 50,000.000? Italy has said 1,000.

These places are making it up as they go along. They have no idea what the safe figure is. It could be one or 7 billion.

Agreed, they are still more worried about the economy than people dying.

The number of UK cases has jumped by 12.

Eight brought it in from Italy and Iran, three caught it from a known source and were being monitored, but there is one case in Essex where the person had not travelled and it is unknown how they caught it.

DoH says the patients were from London, West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Hertfordshire and Gloucestershire, which is of no use at all, they might as well have just named England as the location.

At least Bury has said that a patient was from there so that the rest of Greater Manchester knows and can go about its business.

Should someone recently returned from a holiday in Vietnam be self-isolating? I should have thought so, yet there she was, on our coach to the Zumba event in Swindon today :? I very much doubt she's infected, she was certainly full of energy at the event, but this is how it will spread here - people can't be trusted to use common sense :?

Two of the newly infected cases are in Leeds.

I have had an email from my local councillor that basically states that PHE are carrying out tracing of those who had close contacts with the two but that no further information will be given due to patient confidentiality.

There are two Persian / Iranian communities in Leeds. The more affluent one is at Oakwood with parks, woods and sports fields so not densely populated. The other, very much poorer one, is in the terraced streets of Burley in a mix of ethnicities from the sub-continent and Asia. It, along with neighbouring Hyde Park and Headingley are also studentland serving the the two universities in Leeds.

Headingley is just down the road from me so I will be keeping close tabs on the local news.

Kaz, Becks is in Vietnam and we wondered what we should do if she came home - I mentioned it in another post. The info is non-existent.

If you check the link I posted, all 16 cases in Vietnam have been resolved and the country is considered free of it.

Article in the news today about people licking shrines in Iran

Excellent way to prevent the spread of a pathogen. We must all try it

We know that Iran is wick with this virus and we are letting people fly in from Iran? wonderful.
Leeds is a big university city (10,000 students WM?) and students could spread the virus all over the country.

Iran jumped to 1,500 cases with over 500 new in one day. S Korea is over 4,000 with nearly 600 new cases. China only grew 202 cases yesterday.

Iran has a very high death rate but it is levelling off (if we are being told the truth).

Mrs S and I are travelling this week. We'll be over on a ferry tomorrow night than up through Lincolnshire and on to Fife on Friday. We're at a ball in Fife on Saturday night and there is a new case in Tayside this week. Then we're heading up to the Highlands (or Mrs S is if I'm going back to work), followed by a trek back through the country to get home to France.

Mrs S is worried France will close the borders... The UK has 36 cases and France has 130. Germany has 150 and Italy has 1,700. I know which borders will get closed first...

It is all very worrying, as it seems we can't rely on everyone taking the necessary steps to prevent the spread of this virus.
It seems that All we can do is avoid going out unless our journey can be avoided, and if we have to venture out, then make
certain that when we get back we have a damn good hand wash.
