Is the Johnson's world falling apart?

Postby Workingman » 07 Sep 2019, 21:25

First he avers that the UK will leave the EU on the 21st Oct deal or no-deal "do or die".

This causes disquiet among MPs who are sure he will carry through and there are mumblings in the ranks about stopping him.

His next step is to prorogue parliament to get his way, but this is against the wishes of just about everyone.

So, MPs then introduce a motion to take control of the Commons agenda and it is supported across the house. One MP resigns and 21 others have the whip withdrawn and are deselected.for siding with the opposition.

MPs then pass a law forcing the PM to seek an extension to A50, the Lords agree and it now awaits Royal Assent.

Meanwhile the PM tries to force a GE under the rules of the fixed term act and it fails.

He then makes it known that he will try again on Monday but the opposition have made it clear that it will go the same way as his first attempt. The PM then made the statement that he would "rather be dead in a ditch" than ask for a delay,

This is seen as him saying that he will break the law, so MPs are looking at the legal implications with experts saying the PM could go to prison if he refuses to comply with the new law. A legal team has been set up and is willing to go to court to enforce the law to avoid no deal, if necessary.

And now Amber Rudd has resigned from cabinet and the Conservatives.

Things are not going to the Johnson / Cummings script are they?

No, they are going to the script of the 80% of MP who are remainers and who have always been determined to stop Brexit, in particular the speaker Mr John Bercow, who has torn up the rule book to allow this to happen.
Anyway, I think it's probably best if I give this subject a rest for a bit. Because what is happening in this country now is getting me so angry.

Sorry, Cromwell, but it is not about Brexit it is about a PM and his government's attitude to the law, and also its tactics, I had to reference it to something. It could, at another time, have been about some other contentious and knife-edge subject. Take out "leave the EU on the 21st Oct deal or no-deal" from the first line and replace it with "bring back hanging by X date" and go from there.

He has managed to manoeuvre himself into a position where he has gone from a wafer thin majority of one to one of a deficit of 23 (or 45 depending on how you do the maths) and is now effectively unable to pass legislation: govern. That is not good for him or the country. That was what I was trying to get at... it wasn't meant to be a Brexit story, so sorry for that.

Actually this is ALL About Brexit and MP's who believe that they can alter the vote of the people if they just hang on long enough. Watson has already mooted that we need another referendum simply because the MP's have totally failed to implement the will of the people so the vote of the people is invalid because it took them too long.

Most of this is the fault of May by screwing up the election, losing her majority and trying to push through a Brexit with a parliament arrayed against her.

Boris is simply trying to take the initiative and do what the people voted for.

If Tory MP's go against their party manifesto, their party and their government, then precedent says they have the whip removed. This is not Boris, this is standard party politics.

Those MP's made a commitment to the people, when they asked for their votes, to follow the manifesto of the Conservative Party and get the UK out of the EU. It even said that if the EU was not offering a deal which was good enough, then we would leave without a deal.

Now they want to re-write the script? They don't get that choice. If they want to do that, they stand down, trigger a by election and either stand for another party or as an independent.

That is the honourable thing to do.

There is NO honour in parliament today, or the Lords. Yet all those dishonourable scumbags keep on going on about Boris' lack of honour...

Really!

You might want to read this article if you think that the current conservative government is out of options.

Corbyn and his advisors might want to read it too. Because this is a very viable option and puts the boot firmly on the other foot.
