There are some mornings you really hate

Postby Suff » 22 Mar 2013, 11:19

I set my alarm for 04:10 this morning and also 04:25. Needless to say I switched them both OFF instead of snoozing them.

Why so early? I was flying out of of Southampton at 7am today back to Limoges.

So what happened? I woke up again at 05:25. Panic, rush, I'd packed almost everything last night but still a few things to do. Out to the car, time to curse that I didn't fill it last night, showing under 1/4 tank.

I decided (funny how you make many bad decisions when under pressure), not to put any fuel in at the services I was staying at, if I needed it I would get it later.

Well when your speeds approaching 100mph (I was nearly 40 miles from the airport), in my car, fuel is something you use with a hose, not a teaspoon. Eventually found a sainsburies on my satnav with my fuel gauge under the red and driving at 70mph. Fuel in car, back on the road, into the airport. I've never driven into Southampton airport to park before. Tried to park in the pay and display to find that it only takes 5 days. I need nine. Now it's 18 mintues past 6 and time is flying. In the end I had to dump the car in the short term parking. At £26 per day. That's going to hurt!

There I was all organised to have a reasonable journey time (hence not filling the car at services) and messed it up by not getting my lazy backside out of bed....

Ah well it could have been worse. Lost days work, last minute flight costs. Mrs S ranting at me for wasting huge sums of money.

At my desk at home. Hungry, but working. At least I'm home for 9 days, I wonder what the lost ticket cost is as the parking??? :-)

Been there, done that, and have waited by the barrier for a car to go out and followed its bumper to avoid the exorbitant parking fee.

At least you are home and warm.

Oh buggeration; that is annoying.... could you call the airport parking people and see if you can wangle a discount?

Yes I'd phone them, the friend who regularly stayed at my flat and flew in and out of Southampton quite a bit did when he had a similar problem. Can't remember how much he had to pay but they were quite helpful :)

And suff, re the alarm - never, ever, hit either snooze or off until you're out of bed! Honestly, the very best way, just learn to automatically get out of bed the second you hear the alarm :)

You need an alarm like my nephew's - it counts down slowly from 20, or it might be 10, and then if you haven't got out of bed to switch it off the top part, which is rocket shaped, launches itself from the base and flies around the room making a horrible racket :?
