I remember speculation in the Washington Post or NY Times that Trump had an agenda to spite Obama and that it included such things as Iran, Medicare and the Mexican border wall.

Did this speculation come from their own investigations or from rootling through the UK Embassy bins or accessing its leaky email servers or did Durroch's team dig deeper into this press speculation to come up with its own conclusions that confirmed the speculation and, which it reported to government and which then became public?

Possible answers in a future best-selling blockbuster expose by a female journalist.

Kaz, really good point, but also this. Darroch's papers are said to be from 2017 - 2019. Who was FS from 2016 - 2018 and, therefore, in receipt of some of the documents? Well, it was one Boris Johnson, yet he wipes his hands of the matter.

Honestly I agree with Ossie's original post and also most of WM's original response.

What bonehead put this in a mail. This kind of stuff goes in the diplomatic pouch and is encrypted too.

Whoever leaked it needs to be found and prosecuted for, potentially, treason.

The ambassador needed to fall on his sword. Certainly, that is what politicians do when they are caught saying, or doing, things our allies don't like.

The final one for me is that there was no way that any of this was in the interest of the country. The DM bank balance, certainly. The response from the press, so far, sounds like "A big Boris did it and ran away"! The press threw the ambassador under the bus. Boris? He just decided to talk about the future rather than making bold statements about how he was going to resurrect the bleeding an bloody pieces lying on the floor.

It will pass. If the DM stops releasing stuff. Because the ambassador has clearly said a hell of a lot more and they will have it all.
