Indeed. However, as with fooling all of the people all of the time, she fell into the trap of trying to please everyone. She should have accepted that doing one thing was going to hack off 48% of the population and doing another was going to do the same to 52%. The wise thing would have been to accept that and work with the majority.

I saw this coming last year. So I made provision. I will, at least, have a vote on which of the two candidates remain standing when voting comes around!

The rest? Well I'm Exceptionally busy right now so we'll just let that unfold and talk about it after.

I'm much more interested, right now, in Sunday night and whether the Tories, or UKIP, managed to get a single MEP. I'm even more interested in the number of people who woke up and realised that a protest party, at the time of defining moments, is of more worth than all the loyalty in the world. Especially if those who receive your loyalty simply take it for granted and betray it. The biggest news in the last month is the polling which shows transference from the EU election voting intent into Westminster. Now THAT is more than worth talking about.

Welcome back Suff!
If by taking loyalty for granted you mean the Parliamentary Conservative party taking their ordinary members for granted I can see where you are coming from. Will the MP's manage to stitch up Johnson, again? Some of the people who want to be leader seem to be being very optimistic, imo.

WM re Larry the cat; all i will say is that since being appointed chief mouser in 2011 he has seen off two Prime Ministers. A public inquiry into possible Russian funding of his Whiskas must surely be imminent. :)

She has been an abysmal PM, far too easily outmanoeuvred by the Brussels bureaucrats, and quite honestly, she should have gone well over a year ago.

And what's coming, assuming it's Johnson, is going to be far worse. It will be Johnson, because the Tories are running completely scared of Farage's populism, and need a "populist " of their own to counter him. Well, we get what we deserve, I guess. I shall be glad to see a General Election and the whole sorry (Eton) mess of them swept away.

Best way forward now? Revoke Article 50 .

This!!!

If you are a dictator then maybe, but if you have to face an election at some point that might not be so wise. You cannot just piss off nearly half of those who voted as they will never forget. And by definition of them not making a mark one way or another you have no idea how many of that cohort of 26% who did not vote you will also piss off.

The wise thing, therefore, would be to try to find some middle ground, and that is where May failed miserably as she got the whole process the wrong way round. She should have got people from all sides together to see if there was some deal acceptable to the wider audience. Instead she invoked A50 and then tried to pull the ends into the middle. It did not work and that is why we are in the God awful mess we are in.

I, and many others, will not forgive Cameron, May and the Tories for what they have done to the country. And the irony and schadenfreude of Fartrage taking votes from them in the future will be a delight to behold.

In hindsight I wish we had just given the EU notice and left. Immediately we should have started negations for free trade, protection of EU citizens here and UK citizens living abroad, monies which were due to be paid etc. Maybe I am a bit naive here, but I think the discussions could well have got off to a cracking start. I doubt we would have been in the sorry state that we are now.

Meds, Aggers, that's all well and good, but it was not on the ballot paper or campaigned for. Both Vote.Leave and Leave.EU mentioned the single market. Farage went as far as to say a Norway style deal would work and he also said that a 52:48 result (for Remain) would be unfinished business. So, although 'to leave' is clear in one sense it is not clear that 'no deal' was it. To do so is not the majority view and never was.

Let me also put it this way. A government is supposed to work for the whole of the country and its peoples whether they voted for it or not. To work for the newest newborn to the oldest centenarian, from the richest multi-billionaire to the poorest pauper and from all points N. S. E & W. That is the ideal.

Now I know that there are pressures and dynamics to make the ideal impossible, but it is right to try.

So, imagine a government saying to the North, Scotland and N.I. that it was stopping all infrastructure projects and cutting funds and that councils would have to raise local taxes to take up the slack. There would be riots, even in the areas not affected, and the government would fall.

It would be the wrong thing to do to cut one section of people off from the rest in the real sense and it is the wrong thing to do in the abstract sense as well. That is what would be happening if we just went no deal.

It is not about whether the person is nice, likeable or even very honest. In fact, to deal with the EU, some level of dishonesty is probably a very good trait.

It is about whether the candidate will do what needs to be done regardless of the immediate or short term consequences.

@Crommers, I'm not really back but thanks for the welcome. I'm just reading and making a comment or two for now.
