Only in Portugal

All of a sudden, about a year ago, three recycling bins turned up by the bar. Great, I thought, saves me going into Ourique to do it - and then bring it back as the bins were full

BUT - the plastic bin takes less than a week to fill and is then not emptied for weeks. In this instance, 6 weeks People are still taking their plastic down and leaving it by the side, so of course, it gets blown all over the place in the wind Odette and Maria are forever picking it up.

We spoke to Jose yesterday about it. And he, like us, thought it was organised by our local council and rang them to get them to empty it.

Not us, they said. He comes down from Beja That's an hours drive What on earth is the point of recycling when the lorry has a 2 hour drive? They actually take it away to empty it, then bring it back

Can't make it up.

That's a ridiculous situation Jan! Do the council have a recycling scheme similar?

It's perfect out there, sunny and around 15c. Really lovely.
Me and Bill have just walked in the woods and around the common for a couple of hours and we've seen just one person (and two dogs).

Pepper is having her cysts removed this afternoon. I know they'll look after her, but I'll feel better when we hear from Becky that it's all done!
