I think I might have some rescue remedy in the cupboard, so will try that tomorrow.

Well I built (if I may say so myself) the most amazing enclosed litter tray out of a moving box and the cat flap they have been using for a year. Showed it to them. Neither looked that impressed by my efforts, and one wee'ed on the carpet a meter away in less than an hour later.

Phoned the vets, and they think it is more likely to be behavioural as if it was medical, given its been going on for two years already, then we would be seeing other symptoms already. So she suggested multiple litter trays scattered around the house ( not very practical with a 2 & 3 year old in the house) feliway but changed her mind in that when I said we had already tried that, lots more attention to the two cats, and trying my cattery idea.

I pulled out sasha's freshly washed dressing gown out of the washing basket that I had only bought in less than 10 mins prior to pack as we were going to be out tonight, and you guessed it. Wet with wee,so that's a whole 2 loads of washing I need to redo tomorrow. Not happy.

Weka, you'll laugh at this one, but what do you use to clean?

Anything that has been wee'd on you need to wash with a biological washing powder as that breaks down the enzymes of the wee and will definitely get rid of the wee smell. Non-Bio stuff won't do the trick.

Also, don't use products containing bleach - not sure what it is about bleach but a lot of cats seem to associate bleach with scent marking so will go and wee on the spot cleaned that has been cleaned.

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you. Do you have pet insurance for your cats - is that the 'done' think over your neck of the woods? If yes then maybe ask your vet about a referral to a cat behaviourist - there must be one in Australia somewhere you could contact. Alternatively http://www.vickyhalls.net/#/contact/4566063608 may be of some use.

also have a read through this if you get a chance: http://www.catchat.org/urination.html most I suspect you are aware of but still; something may just help. There are also some additional links at the bottom of that page.

I read today that cats need to pee more often in the dark.

I was wondering whether this might be relevant to your problem, in which case it might
be worth trying leaving a low-output light on at night. Just a thought.

Angers, that had crossed my mind too, as both of the common places are in a darkish part of the house, one is right beside the garage door, and you do need a light on there to see what you are doing, and the other is next to the stairs right by the front door, (lovely welcome home) but the front door has since (building the house) had a porch added and enclosed, therefore the home side of the front door, is also now rather dark. The play room is now closed off at night time, as they only seemed to wee there at night, but the dinning room is a mystery, as that would appear right in front of a very large window, right in the middle of the day.

Meriad, I normally use a bucket of water poured on, then sucked up by my carpet washer, followed by the bissell carpet washing solution for pet odors. Thursday though I went to a specialized pet store and spent a fortune buying proper cat wee cleaning stuff, (seems to have done a good job on Oliver's school bag, and 2 of the 3 places on the carpet i squirted) and a cat repellant. I haven't used the cat repellant yet, as I fell like that could just add more stress. I also got yet another type of litter I haven't tried yet. This one is made from pine. It's been in the second tray for 3 days now and not touched, so I don't think that one is liked by either, but does give an idea of perhaps scattering some of that where I don't want them to go. They did possibly re-go on one of the carpet spots I treated, but it might also be that has just dragged up more odor/wee as it dried needing treatment.

I also put some rescue remedy in the water. Yesterday I saw my suspect cat scratching in the garden covering over her wee's so I know she is going outside, either that or the rescue remedy has chilled her out, or I have the wrong cat in mind.

Still, nothing today or yesterday, fingers crossed.
