Are pigeons taking over the world?

Postby cromwell » 06 Mar 2013, 10:26

There are hundreds of 'em around here. We used to have lots of Magpies but the pigeons (or are some of them collared doves?) have seen them off. They are some immense sizes too.
We have one that sits on the back fence, I don't know how the fence stays up!
Are they taking over the whole country? should we be concerned, lol? :)

We have loads of them in the city centre here - they are very bold as people feed them  They aren't as bad as the seagulls though - Gloucester has a massive seagull infestation, they can get quite aggressive :?

A lot of those in Leeds bus station do not have feet, just stumps, but they make a good living from the droppings from the Greggs bags.

There don't seem to be quite as many as there used to be in my nearest town centre, there're still enough around to be a nuisance though.
When we lived close to the town centre feeding the birds was a nightmare, as soon as anything went onto the bird table pigeons would swoop

I don't think that pigeons will take over the world, but cockroaches might.
I understand that they are the ony living creatures that can survive atomic radiation.

Food for thought.eh?

A lot of people over here race pigeons and although I'm not a great lover of them, it really is lovely to see them swooping and swirling over the fields :)

Two big fat ones waddling over our back lawn as I type. You could feed a family of 4 off the pair of 'em for a week . :D

The magpies here have competition for once at the moment and it's from crows. Not sure if they are common crows, hooded crows or jackdaws, but they do tend to flock in the trees behind our garden and see the magpies off.

We have them here too in ever increasing numbers. Rats with wings. They look pretty, they make me laugh when they run across the ground, even the noise they make isn't too bad, but they are the last bird I want anywhere near my house.

I had 4 visit the other day after some crusts I had thrown out. I made it very clear to them that they were not welcome (thanks trusty water pistol) and so far so good, I haven't seen them back.
