i got all wobbly on the big 'up' escalator at Gatwick last year - mainly as it had a glass wall right next to it to the outside of the building :? Funnily enough I am fine on 'down' ones :?

When Jacob was a little boy he practically fainted one day on the escalator in John Lewis in Milton Keynes. :o

He was in his teens before he felt ok with them after that.

Now of course he'd probably take one to bits to see how it worked and put it back together again!

I'm funny with escalators - I have to hold on (preferably with me left hand for some unknown reason) and I get very panicky if I'm on an up one and there's no one behind me or a down one with no one in front :? Like you though Kaz, I'm more comfortable on down ones.

Shell, I had that problem in the Tower Of London, I really didn't like the old stairs in those, where they spiral and you have the narrow end of the step with nothing to hold onto. A lady came down with a child and I really couldn't move over to let her pass on the wider part

((((Shell)))) I really empathise xxxx

It seems escalators are a common fear - not sure it counts as a phobia as to me it sees entirely rational :?

Ally poor Jacob  LOL @ him wanting to take things to bits to see how they work though - my eldest was/is like that. He took his own cot bed apart when he was a toddler - I went in one morning to find him sat on the floor in the middle of the pieces, and his first Atari console had the same fate............ :?

They are, aren't they....I know some people get annoyed at threads that go off topic but like you say, it's just like real life.
