It' was niggling me since Lissie mentioned it so have googled:
"Is turkey meat ok for dogs?

Yes, dogs can most definitely eat turkey, as a general rule.

Many premium dog food blends are made with turkey.

What IS NOT good for dogs are turkey skin, bones or turkey fat. Also, make sure that no onions have come in contact with the turkey since onions ARE toxic to dogs. To a slightly lesser extent, garlic isn't great for dogs, either. Many foods and treats for dogs contain garlic, but many dogs cannot tolerate it and some can be fatally allergic to it."

This turkey was always intended for her so was cooked completely plain, with just a little water, and I stripped the skin off as soon as it was cool enough. The juice has been in the fridge so all the fat is in a layer on top, which I will take off. So it looks like it's fine :)

Incidentally, I didn't know about onions till I was searching about food for her since she's been ill. Not that we would ever have fed her actual onions, but she might have had a bit of gravy, when I'd cooked meat on a bed of onion.

That's good then 8-) Mick would never have given Scooby cooked bones, but there might well have been skin and fat in it that time :!: That's worth knowing Di :)

I looked at several sites and much the same answer was given each time, especially regarding the skin and fat, it can lead to pancreatitis, but the meat on its own should be fine.

It's been interesting over the past few weeks to learn about what is and isn't considered ok for dogs. I've never agreed with certain people who insist you can feed them whatever you're eating, and because of her tum we've always been extra cautious with Minnie. She's only ever had dog food, and the odd little bit of eg plain meat, potato, rice or pasta - and raw carrot :)

Added - you were typing at the same time. What dose of vit C do you take? When you have the first signs of a cold or flu you can take 1g twice a day for a few days, or even more I think but would have to look it up.
I take the 500mg ones because they're not as big! I don't take them all the time, but if youngest has been here with a cold I just take one of those a day for a couple of days, but if I start a scratchy throat or something then I take 2, twice a day. Plus zinc, but you can't take more than the proper dose of that.

Di my regular ones have selenium and zinc included, but I do have some which are just vit C so I'll up my dose using those - thanks :) I've been lucky so far this winter, only one nasty bug and that didn't last long - I was only telling someone yesterday about my use of hand gel when I'm out and about and in crowds, and how I'd escaped the worst of the bugs this year - that must have tempted fate :P ......Fingers crossed this one disappears soon  ;)

Good morning all, it's very overcast here - I haven't been out yet though, so don't know how cold it is. Mr. Osc has been for a walk but didn't say when he came back. I'm most unusually still in my dressing gown - we are going out around lunchtime, so I'll head for the shower shortly. We are going to a dance competition this afternoon, and would generally go for a meal with our friends afterwards, but as we are both a bit tired after going out two nights in a row, we have taken chilli out of the freezer in case we fancy just coming home. Mr. Osc is still not back to 100% of his normal self, so neither of us wants to risk a relapse to the dreadful flu we had. Thankfully the comp is just a 30 minute drive away, which is good.

Kaz, don't fight this today, just take it easy, plenty of fluids and vit c, if you fight it you might make it worse. If your nose and sinuses get all blocked up try steam inhalation with a couple of drops of tea tree oil if you have it. Hope Minnie enjoys her turkey, Di. Have a good day everyone :)

Thanks Osc, I do happen to have a facial steamer and some tea tree - I've used tea tree to treat H's head when he's picked up nits at school

Enjoy your dance comp, but take care both ((((((((((((x)))))))))))))))

Kaz, take your vitamin C at bed time. Vitamin C leaves your body as soon as you have a wee so it may not stay in your body for long but if you take it at bedtime, it may be there until morning!! If I feel a cold coming on I take 1000 mg, the fizzy tablet type at bed time along with 20 drops of echinacea and, if I have it in the house, a dose of Nightnurse. The Nightnurse makes me sleep and usually the symptoms have gone by the morning.

Hope you feel better soon.
