Last Night At The Proms.

Postby AliasAggers » 09 Sep 2017, 21:23

Just enjoyed watching the annual musical treat from the Albert Hall. It makes one proud to be British.

I was surprise to see, however, that some of the Union flags being waved were mounted up-side-down.
Don't people know that that is an insult to the Queen, and is a punishable offence?

Aggers the pedant.

Learnt something new today. I always thought the Union Jack was symmetrical.

I took my dad out to the kiwi version a few years back and we both loved it. I'd love to go to the one at Albert hall though one day.

I didn't notice any upside down flags Aggers - so enthralled was I watching the proms for the very first time!

I'd watched SCD and kept BBC on...I was absolutely smitten by the whole thing.

Funnily enough, when I was in London recently, we walked past the Royal Albert Hall and I said to Jackie that I'd always wanted to go inside. When I got back to Spain I looked at a flyer that I'd picked up and it was advertising a tour of of the hall for summer 2018 and the price was £10! I immediately put that on my to do list for my annual visit. :D :D :D

So I was really pleased when Katie Derham did a brief tour...it looks so gorgeous inside and out. :D :D

It is absolutely beautiful Ally, I went to a concert there years ago.
Been to proms in the park twice, once with Bb when we saw Andrea Bocelli which was magical, even in the rain.

We watch it every year, last night stayed on the red button for a while as I wanted to see Ray Davies :)

That's sealed the deal Di - I'm so looking forward to seeing inside the beautiful building.

I loved also when Katie was explaining about Queen Victoria changing the name at the very last minute throwing a right royal spanner into the works!

No, It isn't, Weka.

Look at the white diagonal stripes on the side closest to the flagpole. The white stripes on the Union Flag
are not all the same width. The wider white stripes on the side closest to the flagpole should sit on top of
the diagonal red stripes.

Incidentally, strictly speaking It should only be called a JACK when it is a national flag flown at the bow of
a vessel in harbour. (now, that's really being pedantic).

I am proud to say that I have only been to the Albert Hall once in my life - to sing there!

It was in May 1938, and I was one of a choir of 1000 school children giving a concert there,
in the presence of the Queen, when she was a princess, and her sister Margaret. What a
day to remember!
