The letter H.

Postby AliasAggers » 20 Aug 2017, 12:18

I was watching a recording of a programme on the TV the other night about competition
to find the cleverest school child. Many of the questions were about spelling, which made
me realise how many words there were in the English language that I had never heard of.

One thing I did notice, however, was that all the children pronounced the letter H wrongly,
by sounding it with an aspirate. The correct pronunciation of H, which is spelt AITCH, does
not begin with an H. Don't any of their teachers know that?

You'll probably say, 'Does it matter?'- It does to a pedant like me!

That is exactly what we were discussing when we were watching the programme Aggers. All of them seemed to do it.

Have you noticed how many people say F instead of TH nowadays?
