Blast from the past!!

Postby Ally » 25 Jul 2017, 09:31

Does anyone remember who it was (I think from the old DM days) that posted the recipe for Keema mince. :D

I still have the recipe and used to make this loads when the twins were younger. They loved it! (we all did  ) Since Jacob flew the nest I haven't made it once. :o

Conor's coming over for lunch on Friday and I asked him what he fancied.

Do you know mum, he said. I was thinking about that spicy mince thing you used to make. Can I have that please.

Cue me going to my folder of hand written recipes.

And I'm really looking forward to having a big plate of it myself!

It was Nesrine, she gave us some wonderful recipes :)

Recipe please! :D

Di, we still regularly have the Jambalaya that you posted the recipe for a few years ago. We had it on Sunday actually. There was a time when I'd gone about a month without making it and Joe asked when I was going to make 'orange rice' again.

If it is what I am thinking then all you need is mince, onion, peas and potatoes. It is a dry curry similar to a samosa filling.

500g Mince
Chopped onion
Garlic clove
Large potato diced (2cm cubes)
Peas
Tbs Tomato puree
Tbs Curry paste/powder
Diced carrot (optional)
Splash of chicken/veg stock

Parboil the potatoes and carrots for 3 - 4 mins and drain.

Saute the onion with the mince and crushed garlic. Add the tomato puree and curry paste and mix in. Add the potatoes peas and carrots along with 150ml stock and on a low heat cook till the fluid is almost gone. Keep adding stock and cooking it away till the potatoes and carrots are cooked through and softened.

I don't put carrots in mine. I use frozen diced peppers-red and green. :D

This was one of the lovely Nesreen (from DD) recipes and has become a firm family favourite in this house.

500g mince
1 bowl frozen peas
4 potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1/4 tsp chilli powder
3 cloves garlic, crushed
3 onions, chopped
small piece of ginger, diced
1 tbsp cumin powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp garam masala

Fry the onion until brown. Add the mince.

Add garlic, ginger, all the spices and the chilli. Fry or a couple of minutes.

Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for 30 minutes. Add some water if you think it is a little dry.

There you go, Di.   Mine was a slight mod of Nesreen's version from the days when I used shop-bought paste and I also do not put carrots in Ally.

Carrots in a curry    whatever next

Although in saying that, Steve had put a lot of red pepper and sultanas in his curry - something I really do not like :cute: :cute:

I put chopped red peppers in when I make a Rogan Josh or a Jalfrezi.

Sultanas in a curry?

It was a jalfrezi Ally - but all we ended up with was some rather tough red pepper skin
