I think you get your eyes tested and then are given the detailed prescription to take home not having 'SpecSave' make them up so fill in the online form and they make them up and fit them to the frames chosen on their website-but it is those measurements that matter.

Of course Fugi but the only details you are giving the online sites is your prescription. That alone is not enough information to make them up correctly for you as an individual.

Without going into the whys and wherefores, even a single vision pair of glasses needs at least one measurement, and if it is a complicated prescription, more than that. Online places will not have that info so the glasses may well be the right prescription, but incorrectly made up. I accept that won't make sense but it is important.

I've always thought that opticians' prices were far too high.
You could buy a TV set with what some charge.

When I'm doing my cross-stitching I wear a pair of reading glasses I bought from Boots for about £12,
and they are better than the precription glasses, also from Boots, that I paid around £200 for.

When my daughter was at school she needed some correction glasses to wear occasionally. I took her to
an optician and when it came to the point of sale, I told him that NHS specs would suffice. He then
produced some NHS samples that were in a right filthy condition, guaranteed to put anyone off.

The prices charged for so-called fashion glasses for you ladies are nothing but bare-faced robbery, IMO

It's not the frames though Aggers, it's the lenses and extras - and the extras are often essential. Although the more expensive frames do usually look and feel more robust.

I have varifocals, and couldn't possibly buy a pair of reading glasses off the shelf because my eyes are so different. But then the pair I have for sitting here, prescription-made to the exact distance I wanted, for reading the pc screen, was only £20 for the frames and I think another £20 for the lenses.
The varifocals also have transition lenses, living here when the sun's out it's very bright especially by the sea, so to have just one pair is far easier.
Then the left eye is very weak so the lens would be much much thicker than the right, so I pay to have them as thin as possible.
And once you're spending that much on them you want them scratch-proof as well ;)

I appreciate about the measuring too, the varifocals arrive with little marks all over them. And I have a small head, so things like the length between eye and ear always has to be adjusted. I must have tried on about 30 frames before choosing, and it's comfort as much as what they look like, you can't do that online!

My frames only cost 20 euros, then I had a 5 euro discount on them and because the total was above 500 euros, I got another 5 euro discount on the supermarket card.

And she threw in a very strong case for Grumpy's glasses, as he broke his when he fell over last week.

I would have loved some different frames Aggers, but cost and also my lenses, to a certain extent, dictated which frame I could have.

My last pair were from guess and have done me proud :D
