Thanks MM, but it's done now. Paid for and will be insured as from Wednesday.

Our insurance man is going to make sure I'm covered for accidental breakage (told him we had to include that one ) loss or theft and that's for inside and outside the home.

I thought the same as Saundra at first - a cheap flight over and SpecSaver but I also have a friend who gets her prescription lenses on-line though I've never tried it. Good luck with them as always takes time and patience to get used to new glasses

You know we're here if you ever need anything doing - same goes for all our ex-pats have an online friend who sometimes buys clothes on eBay, but the sellers won't post to Oz - she gets them sent to me and I forward them on and she reimburses the postage to me using our paypal accounts. It's no trouble really

Can I just say that ordering online for specs can be extremely risky for ANY prescription, not just a complicated one. Opticians and their staff (ie me!) take a precise measurement when ordering glasses that most people don't have a clue about, and this is very important for the glazing process, even for single vision. I know you can buy ready readers over the counter, but they are always both the same strength in both lenses and most people are not, so you are always compromising, which is fair enough if you are not wearing them all the time, but if you need glasses for driving for example, and they are not precisely your prescription, then you would be driving illegally.

Varifocals have to be measured precisely for every single individual, there is very little chance that a person would know these measurements for an online order, each frame could mean a different measurement and even 1mm off can mean your vision would not be right. I cannot stress enough the importance of eyecare - you wouldn't allow someone off the street to test your eyes so why would you allow an internet site to provide your prescription glasses?

Please know I am not just saying this because I work in Optics.

I think my friend just has single lens from online and I wouldn't order mine like that because of driving. The measurements they do are so precise that even if I have mine on a bit crooked when driving (reading and driving ones) the whole perspective and driving vision goes wonky as well. Dangerous!!!

Thank you for thought, but as Gal said, for something like my eyes, I'd much rather pay for a proper test and everything that goes with it.
