Terrorist attack in London.

Glad to learn Ria's safe. Master O's fiancée works at St Thomas' Hospital just opposite the HoP, but we know she was on leave today, and actually down in Brighton.

Mrs O and I were in London yesterday, meeting the prospective in-laws. I was going to post an anecdotal tale about our adventures up there, but that would hardly be appropriate given the events this afternoon.

When I was leaving Waterloo Station to join Mrs O, who was up in London already, I saw a party of excited schoolchildren "up from the country" being herded together at the exit by their teachers. Now we learn that a group of French children were caught up in this incident on Westminster bridge and there have been casualties. Our hearts go out to them especially.

20 casualties. There will be a lot of worried and grieving families tonight.

My thoughts and best wishes are with them. I'm sure I'll hear more about the French children killed and wounded later, locally.

firstly huge (and humbling) thanks for all your concern, it's been astounding how many messages I've had, be it via FB, Whatsapp or mutual friends. As you may have read on the News Board, yes I am totally fine. My office isn't all that far from where it happened (we overlook Embankment Gardens) but if it hadn't been for the news etc I'm not sure we would have taken much notice. Obviously once we knew what had happened we noticed the helicopters in the air, the lack of traffic on the embankment etc... but until then it was heads down and work doing it's usual routinel

Getting home wasn't a problem at all. In fact SWT did have delays but that was due to a signal failure and track issues this morning. The events today had no impact whatsoever. A friend asked if I'd notice more police activity at Waterloo; but in all honesty I didn't. If there was, they certainly blended in very well

I'll be honest though, my biggest worry in all of this is that this was just a trial run - to see how the police / emergency services would react. I called my mom when I got home so she knew I'd gotten here OK and she mentioned that the Germany commentary has been very complimentary of the way the police etc handled everything here. But I'm not sure that there isn't more to come.

Ed (Don's nephew) works a spit away from there and first thing I did was messenger him to make sure he was ok.

His office is very near and he too could hear the helicopters, etc.

So sad for all harmed.

I had been expecting, sadly, that something like this would happen one day. but It could have been far worse.

I wonder whether the car on the bridge incident was meant as a diversion, the attack on the House of Commons
that followed being the main objective. Thank heaven that didn't come off.

It makes one feel so sad that things like this happen, and that innocent people have to suffer so.

It always seems just that bit worse when foreigners are injured in attacks like these. It's as though they are guests in our country and we should be taking better care of them. Illogical maybe but I always feel this way.

I remember feeling the same way. But I had no choice. It was too far to walk (as I found out on the day)

I'm pleased to hear that there was no VV'ers caught up in it. I'm not actually sure if I caught all the news. I'm a bit behind at the moment, but I instantly thought of all of you when I heard it had happened.
