Sorry not to have any first hand experiences to share Loz - our holidays tend to be hectic kid and dog friendly ones here in the UK, or else prone on a beach abroad - but I have also heard great things about the Gower. I used to have a friend who raved about holidays there....... 8-) :)

I know Lynmouth well, which I like, but it isn't remote enough for me. Exmoor is lovely it's true. We stayed in Dunster for a few days last year and it was very pretty.

It now turns out that we may not get away at all this year (boo!) as we need to spend our pennies on getting the drive done  Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll keep them in mind for next year

Oh Loz that's a shame.
Personally I'd thought Cornwall not really remote or quiet enough either, although there are places you can get away from everyone.
What I did think of, if you find a few spare pennies, or for another time, is that Moondancer has posted a few times about lovely remote cottages where they've gone with bOg, probably Cumbria; are you friends with her on fb?
Also wondered about parts of Suffolk, but have never been.

Maybe we will get away for a few days later in the year. I'll have to work on my powers of persuasion ;)
Yes Di, Moonie is a FB friend so I may get in touch if the time is right :)
