Great British Menu - does anyone watch it?

Postby meriad » 21 Oct 2016, 12:48

I quite enjoy most cooking programmes, but this is definitely one of my favourites. Fantastic cooking (OK sometimes some weird things) by good chefs but what makes it is the camaraderie throughout, even though winning each heat really is important to them. It's just such easy watching esp as it's only 1/2 hour

Last years winners had the honour of cooking at a huge banquet celebrating the centenary of the WI. This years winners will cook at a banquet in honour of the Queens 90th birthday at Westminster Palace

I love this too Ria - it's on when I'm at work but I record it and watch/listen to it the following morning. Usually when I've had my run and am enjoying my coffee.

I have been watching it because I like the format and the fact that the competitors help each other out.

As for the food, I wouldn't give pocket lint for some of it. If I want to eat 'Art' I'll go to Tate Modern and pick up something by Damien Hurst.

And if I was at a banquet and the starter was 'potatoes six ways' I would be thinking that it could only get better; but could it?

It's amazing at the big difference between the opinions of the judges and of the chefs themselves.

Exactly! Saw a bit of the Westminster one and I just cannot be bothered with all that pretentious nonsense - I mean, a nail hammered into something, and smoke everywhere

Absolutely loved it. Would have loved to have been at that banquet and eaten it all - apart from the underdone venison.
