Where will it all end? "We are at war"...this latest attack in France shows just how determined the terrorists are to create
Death and destruction.
If ever there is a need to sort the immigration department out it is now.
And as these attacks continue as we look on helpless as innocent men women and children are killed.
FOR WHAT?

I tuned in for the press preview just after 10 pm and all this was unfolding - shocking.

The numbers of dead kept going up like at an auction. First it was eight, then 12, then dozens, then 30 or more, with hundreds injured.

Once it was confirmed as a terrorist attack a security expert made one of the most chilling statements I have heard in a long time. He said that terrorist organisations (plural) had issued instructions to followers on social media that anything could be used as a weapon, guns and bombs were not necessary: anything would do. He went on to say that this is what looked to have happened in Nice, and although there were fears the lorry could be loaded with explosives he expected it to be an opportunist attack on a soft target.

That paints a picture of Hell for all of us. We cannot and must not let our guard slip. I hope that politicians are taking note.

Kaz, so do I.

Frank, I heard similar on the radio this morning, that anything can be used as a weapon which makes preventing attacks a near impossible task for security. It's so very frightening.

I didn't see this till it was mentioned on a call at work.

This is horrific and perpetrated on a day which the French take great pride in and have so much fun on. Which doubles the fear and terror.

Had this been done in London, it is unlikely that the casualty list would have been so low. Looking at the truck it is peppered with gunshots as all French Police are armed.

This is sad in so many ways. All the lives lost, all the lives destroyed through life altering injury. But also on another level. when Hollande tried to pass a law which would allow the government to strip French citizenship from immigrants who were proven to be involved in terrorist activities, the response was immediate and robust. You don't just strip the French of their citizenship. It is likely that this attitude will change and when it does it will be worse for everyone. Also laws to prevent governments from snooping will be degraded again.

Worse of all it degrades our own humanity. If these attacks continue at this level of intensity, eventually the call for total war in the IS claimed land in Syria and Iraq will become stronger and the civilians in those areas will become the pawns of that action with huge losses.

I shall mourn the loss and the broken lives of this event. But I refuse to change who I am.

The war in Syria and the 'war' in France are two different things.

The French PM, Valls, said: "France should have to learn to live with terrorism."

I can see a lot of his countrymen and women holding a different view. There are elections coming up and the FN and other right-wing parties will be making the most of this, and other attacks, to gain support. If the authorities do not get a grip, and soon, we could see France go up in flames.

I think it's probably a mistake to apply Anglo Saxon motivations and expectations to the French. They are quite able to tear down the entire Republic one week and return to "life as normal" the next.

We cannot separate IS, the war against IS and these attacks. Eventually it will daw on even the most PC politician that the end game of playing PC games with IS is not one they want to live with. When that finally dawns the entire military might of the western world will fall on them and they'll be finished in a week. It's the cost I worry about.

Right now Turkey is making overtures to Assad, the US is working with Russia to coordinate airstrikes and everyone is getting hit with the reality stick. IS, if left unchecked, will create the situation where a new Kurdistan is created. Turkey won't allow that and has to do something about it.

In the funeral pyre of IS will follow all the rebels of the Syrian war. Then we will have terrorism on two fronts. IS and the Syrian rebels.

We have involved ourselves in a family squabble and now the entire family is coming after us. The cost of that will be innocent lives, our freedom and our liberty.

It's a dark day.
