Candy Update

Postby shazsha » 11 Feb 2013, 21:09

Candy was at the vet today.

She has lost some more weight though she is eating constantly and her blood levels weren't as the vet wanted.

After talking with other colleague's the vet has decided that Candy's insulin should stop.

She said that they could do an exploratory operation to try and find out, in more detail, what is happening with Candy and her pancreas but she isn't fussy on doing this because she believes that no matter what there would be no cure.
She also said that Candy had gone through enough with all the blood tests ad daily injections she's had.
I asked her if to carry on would intrude on Candy's life quality and she said it would.

She said that Candy has been an extremely difficult cat to treat as she doesn't respond how she should to the treatment they have tried. She says there is a very minute chance she'll regulate her own insulin but she doubts it.

We've decided just to feed her her favourite foods and let nature takes it's own course.

She has an appointment for a fortnight's time but whether she makes it or not is entirely down to Candy now.

She's just sat and ate an enormous amount of chicken breast and is now lying on my knee getting lots of cuddles.

I do have to say that the vets have been wonderful with Candy but I agree with what they have said and it's time now just to spoil Candy and make her as comfortable as possible.

This is a picture of her taken a few years ago with her favourite toy.

Aw Shaz - I am sorry, but am sure what you and the vet have decided is the best thing by far for Candy. She's very pretty, BTW, what lovely markings xxxxx

I hope she just fades away peacefully and naturally, and in her own home being loved and spoiled (((((((((((((((x))))))))))))))))))

Oh Shaz it's so sad isn't it ((((((Shaz))))))
But I totally agree with you, Candy has been put through enough now, there comes a point when it's not the right thing to do.
Enjoy your lovely girl while you can

(((Shaz))) I am sorry :(. For what it's worth I 100% agree - as hard as it is; there comes a time when quality of live has to come over quantity and stopping Candy's insulin and spoiling her for what time you have with her sounds like the right thing to do. Your vet sounds amazing and very supportive which is great - they obviously really care and aren't just in it to make money.

Fusses to Candy and sending vibes that you have a good few months together still x

Candy has now been off her insulin for two days. I think she is slightly more active than she has been-she spends her whole day running to her food dish and eating. I have noticed she is drinking more but I expected this. For the last two days she has been fed turkey along with her cat food and is absolutely loving it-her purring is mega loud.
she has become more demanding of pets and will happily sleep on my lap for hours.
She is quite calm, showing no pain or discomfort and being spoilt rotten by us all.

She sounds really happy Shaz.

You have definitely done the right thing by stopping the insulin and letting nature take its course.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!
