They are here again

Postby cruiser2 » 26 Apr 2016, 17:11

For the second time in less than an hour hail; stones have been coming down. I am glad we do not have to go out this evening.
There is blue sky in the distance but lots of grey ones overhead.
Glad we have got central heating

We have had hail or sleet on and off all day. It is now dark and threatening again. The central heating is on ... and it is nearly May!

Well we have had lovely sunny days with blue skies so far this week. There just a few spots of rain yesterday afternoon, but only for a few seconds. This morning it is the same again - not a cloud in sight.

Most of yesterday morning was sunny but cold; then about 2pm we had snow, sleet, lightning and thunder - all in about 5 minutes. Then overcast(ish) for a bit and then mixed sunshine cloudy. About 7pm we had, what we in Germany refer to as Graupel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graupel) and then clear skies again; but a really nip wind all the way.

A very very mixed bag yesterday :)

 Up here, in rural parts, these soft hailstones are sometimes called grail or greel by the older generations.

We have had more of them today. Currently 4ºC but feels like -1ºC.

We have had the most amazing school holiday Autumn weather. Wall to wall blue for almost 2 weeks. This is Auckland, we have 4 seasons in one day here, I don't know what is happening, but I'm not complaining
Everything happens for a reason
