We never buy food from street venders. We're not snobs, but we do go for value for money.

We had a lovely afternoon snack yesterday, in a café in Lincoln, with comfortable chairs,
china tableware, and delicious food - and we were amazed at how cheap the bill was.

Isn't some of the price due to the fact that the council charges street vendors for a licence before they can sell their food. I wouldn't mind, but most of it is rubbish anyway.

I was often tempted but never indulged by the slices of meat packed on a vertical spike, forgotten the Arabic name but they smelt delicious. Quite cheap too with no extra for the odd bluebottle or its leavings. :)

No not kebabs WM, they were a big pile , fixed and carved downwards then served on bread and folded with sauce. Still can`t think of the name.

Ped, if this is what you are thinking of then the resulting dish is now known as a donner kebab.

Image

It is usually a pita bread filled with salad, hot sauce and meat carved from the spit. Delicious but a but unhealthy. ;)

I used to indulge, but there was a bit of a scare locally about how safe the meat was in some of our takeaways - heated up, left to cool, reheated, cooled etc. .... :?
