Waste of time that was.

Had to chop through a load of estevas, once we'd opened our top gate, to get into our neighbours field.

Hot halfway across and saw that he'd fenced the other side, so couldn't get into the forest :roll:

Probably to stop his cows from wandering off :lol:

Plan B or C is now called for.

I have no idea what they are yet though

The nearest garden centre WM, is either a supposedly 45 minute to Beja, which is now taking double that due to road works, Milfontes, which is about an hour and a half or driving back to the Algarve :roll:

there is a wood place in Santa Luzia, about 20 minutes away - but as Grumpy said, 20 euros worth of canes and ditto for delivery.

So he's going to speak to Sergio about getting a roof rack for the car, which is useful anyway

And hanging baskets do not survive in the Alentejo. Too hot.

OK, so make their climbing frames out of any old twigs and twine. Bamboo is not essential, they, the beans, are not fussy.

A neighbour, John, uses old wire coat hangers for his climbing frames. :lol:

I gave away all the wire coat hangers before we moved - we're trying to work out stuff with string but need some sort of frame work and all the bits of wood we've found are old and break easily. We're on top of a hill, it gets blowy - don't want to make something for it to blow over within a few weeks.

We'll sort something out. I know cane is not the only thing we can use, it's just finding something useable.

is your ruin protected and / or too far from the main house?

If no to both, could you attach eyelets to the exterior walls and string wire between those and grow the beans up the sides of the ruin? Difficult trying to think of something that is practical, wind proof and also not an eyesore... hmmm
