Unknown charge on credit card

Postby Osc » 08 Mar 2016, 23:11

I was checking our credit card bill online earlier and noticed an amount of €217.71 paid to stk*shutterstock.com which meant absolutely nothing to me. Did some googling and although it does appear to be an actual company, there is a fair amount of people on the internet complaining about unauthorised charges from them. So I got on to the c/card company, they have cancelled our card and initiated a fraud investigation. You have to be so careful, and of course, because we used Travel Republic for the first time on the same date, I was hoping it was nothing to do with that, but the woman from the c/card company seemed to think that was fine. At least I was very sure of when and how I had last used the card, and himself never uses it.

couple of years ago we had 300 + taken from our account ,traced to on line shopping in New York our bank said ,not worth chasing but we'll refund it to you ,we recognise it does'nt "fit" with your usual style of shopping .

also done once after using Debit card for payment in a shop here ,the ONLY time in 10yrs that we have used it for payment of anything here ,always use cash

I was never much good with CC statements so I now have pre-pay card which cannot go "overdrawn" as I (anyone) can only spend the amount I paid in.

I keep the amount fairly low and only transfer money in if I want something costly. It saves carrying lots of money around and it gives the same insurances as a proper CC.
