Interesting kichen place

The directions from our friends were complete rubbish, but we managed to find it - even though we got divorced about 3 times before we got there

I've decided on modern, either high gloss white or an off-white. With black work-top, in a new ceramic type material.

Nuno, the owner and architect, will be coming over soon, to measure up and then we talk money

Grumpy prefers the white, me the cream. The inside of the cupboards will be a light grey and I'll be having a new all singing all dancing electric fan assisted, self cleaning oven, with a 5 ring gas hob. if we can, we'll fit a griddle on the side - depends on price.

A new sink, new taps and the work-top will also be the wall covering.

Now we wait.................

I do very much like high gloss white but it does tend to show marks very quickly. But then nothing a quick wipe won't fix

sounds absolutely amazing, can't wait to see pictures. Please will you take some before and after ones so we can compare (because I'm nosy that way )

Cream sounds lovely, nicer than white IMHO which I find a bit clinical

I'll take some "before" picture this week-end.

We told Nuno we're not in any rush, as it will take a few days to remove the old kitchen, put in new sockets etc, and although I love eating out it would be good to wait until April ish, when we can cook and eat outside.

I spoke to a friend of a friend earlier, who used the same company and for a much larger kitchen, with wooden cupboards (I'm having this new melamine stuff) with a central island and granite worktops, they paid 10,000£

see, for me it'd be Ikea all the way. Not only just that bit cheaper but they do really know how to maximise space. I got the most amazing kitchen for £3000.00 from them in 2002 - but then I was lucky in that Karl could install it for me. If you're paying for installation as well no wonder it's all so silly money


Quite honestly Ton, you lost me at the 10,000 mark - I didn't even take notice of the currency bit

But on the other hand - it's one of the most used rooms in any household and one where people tend to try and save money and end up regretting it in the long run. Go for it - your kitchen will last way longer than any sofa, TV, etc....

I'm with you meriad

We used local people, local suppliers (trade only but they have all the major makes of cupboards, workshops etc) and paid under £5000 in 2006.

That included cooker & hood, plus custom-made shelving to go between cupboards, for my cookbooks, and a little spice cupboard
I wouldn't pay any more than that now.
You've seen our kitchen, it's small but there's a lot in it.

Having said that Ton, I also think you should have exactly what you want

My son had Ikea kitchens in both his houses they are great
I loved the magnet high gloss burgundy kitchen tho
I would love a corner unit where the shelves sort of pull out

Or the thin shelf unit that pulls out
