Di, it is fab news about Bb and I am so pleased, but I must say something.

Even if things do not go well, re the sight, please get Bb to reconsider eye removal:

* Who knows what the future holds? Removal is irreversible, his loss of sight might not be
* He will eventually get used to, and ignore it: I have
* If it really does bug him to the nth he could ask for an opaque contact lens to match his eye colour. This would 'blind' the eye but keep it aligned with the good eye

I have a divergent squint because of my loss of sight. In the early days it could still see, but the collapsed retina wanted to "see" and focus on what the good eye was seeing so it moved to compensate.

I did not take the option of the contact lens because I was squeamish about putting things in my eye.

Whatever happens I do wish Bb well knowing that he will survive.

Fair point Wm, and I'm sure he would have listened to the professionals.
If they'd suggested there could be any improvement at all he'd have done whatever was needed xx

Di,
Having had cataracts removed on both eyes this year, I no longer need glasses for reading or driving. The consultant said my eyes are in good condition and I should not have any more problems.
Hope everything goes well for Bb.
