An observation - maybe it is an age thing

Postby Osc » 21 Dec 2015, 14:06

Last night we went to a drinks thing hosted by a couple on our street, they invited everyone on the street, children and all. It was very pleasant, but one thing struck me. There were three "older" ladies there, myself, another one we know well who is late 70s and the mother of one of the younger women, she looked around my age. All three of us had dressed up a bit, I had a nice multicoloured dress with matching necklace and earrings, the late 70s lady had black trousers, a lovely red sweater trimmed with shiny black beads and she had a pretty red chiffon scarf and the third lady had black trousers and a really pretty purple glittery top. Thing is, all the younger women with the exception of one were wearing casual clothes in drab colours :o Is dressing up to go to someone else's house (especially at Christmas) a thing of the past or am I just old fashioned? Incidentally, the young womas who was more dressed up was the daughter of the lady in the purple top, and her little girl had a really sweet sparkly party dress on. I always love getting dressed up to go out!

I think young women today are missing out on a lot in being so casually dressed for practically everything. It's good to dress up, it makes you feel good. The best part of holidays for me is to go in early evening and shower and dress up for dinner in the evening.

I always dress up to go out. :D

I also use work as an excuse to don me frocks and nice clothes..the times I'm not working/going out are spent in cut off Levi's and a vest so I use any excuse to 'look nice'

Don't get me wrong, I love mooching round the house in old jeans and a top. When I am eating out or similar though I get a real kick out of choosing something really nice and wearing a bit of bling.

Must admit, I'm the same.

But, when I do go out, I do try and dress a little bit "up".

Over here, it is normal not to dress up, except for family or big occasions.

I think it is definitely an age thing! I love to get a bit done up, I certainly made a bit of an effort for our Christmas lunch today - jazzy but smart trousers, fluffy cream jumper, sparkly scarf and reindeer headband!

When Rose was here, we went to C&A as I wanted more leggings, so she "made" me buy a lovely cream sparkley jumper, as this would be my Christmas outfit, to go with the rather sparkly black and silver leggings :Hi: :Hi: :Hi: - sorry WM

As it is, I've packed them both and will wear them when we go out, oop there 8-) 8-)

And she's about 6 years older than me, so yes, probably our age.

My son handed his thesis in during last week so we had a bit of a meet up on Saturday.

His mum, step-dad and myself all went smart casual. His friends were all in 'relaxed' clothes. His new fil was smart casual, but his mil was in scraggy leggings, mules, tee shirt and baggy cardigan.

So. sort of an age thing, but not completely.

Nothing sparkly, Ton, and deffo no silver!
