All gone

Postby Weka » 19 Dec 2015, 10:26

The op seems to have gone well. I was a bit drained yesterday to post, sorry.
Thanks Kaz for spotting my Facebook post and relaying here. I was so shattered I was really hoping someone would rely the update.

We got there at 7:30am, waited an hour to be seen by the nurse, then an hour by the aneithatist then another by the surgeon. At least then it was a short wait till we went in to theatre. I held her hand while she went under. I was so proud of her, she just hopped up onto the table with no hesitation, laid down and got on with it.

Waking up was not the best. Thankfully she didn't have the reaction that my brother and dad have. But she was in a lot of pain so got given morphine.

4 hours later she was allowed home. We got home about 5 pm.

Since then we have struggled to get her to eat or drink anything. Not really surprising, but we are now 48 hours with nothing really but iceblocks.

She's now also got a low fever, and she says her whole body is aching and she doesn't feel well, so I'm a bit worried about infection, or it could be that cold she had brewing before she went in. Fingers crossed its nothing and just her body still recovering from the surgery.

Even though she's in pain, it's proving very difficult to stop her running around. Kids aye?

Do you have an out of hours equivalent there that you can ring for some advice? Thats the problem with being discharged on a Friday night, there's nobody around all weekend.

I don't think a fever is a normal sign Weka, I would get advice as if it is infection the sooner it is dealt with the better. Although less than 24 hours is very quick for infection to develop thinking about it.

She needs to eat though.

Hope she picks up during the day xx

I know, the timing really hasn't been the best. Friday op, right on Christmas, and I have to try and find a gp open on the 28th to give her the all clear. our doctors shut, as most are, so will probably end up at a&e.

We have a healthline you can ring.

Pattern is like this
"Welcome to healthline...blah blah"
You say what's wrong, they are sympathetic and eventually reply "they really need to be seen by a doctor within 2 hours, your nearest ones are....."

Do you have Calpol there, Weka? I'm sure she's been given meds though, to take, but Calpol is great for bringing down a fever ((((x)))))

The double voltaren suppository seems to have done marvels!! Still a slight fever but with it we are having to remind her to slow down. With out it, she looks and acts like death warmed up. (Really hope that's an expression you guys use and I e not offended anyone).

Yesterday we were this close to taking her to a&e I fact the nurse on the phone suggested it might be a good thing, but she kept improving then I got my script filled (that the doc didn't want to give and I had to sweet talk my way to getting) and voila, what a difference.
