and we got tired of just sitting and waiting for so long between courses.
That was another thing putting us off.
We were about twenty strong, with parents and children, and the time between the first and last plates of a course being delivered left a lot to be desired. You either had to get tucked in and have a hot meal, or be polite and eat something getting cold.
We are talking ten years or so ago, and even then the whole thing came to upwards of £600.
We now do a Christmas eve meal - Mo and Mary take it in turns to host us all. We are down to about ten of us now the children are grown and gone.
Whoever is hosting does the meats, usually beef, pork and turkey crown, and the rest of us bring in cooked vegetables and spuds ready to go in the oven or microwave for a quick re-heat and then into the heated hostess trolley to await serving.
It works for us even when the vegetable choices are, shall we say, "interesting"! Roasted baby turnips are not what I would call Christmas fayre, but one member of the family always turn up with some. "G'wan, you must try one, they are my favourites".
