Don' buy....

Postby Workingman » 29 Nov 2015, 17:41

... cheap paint.

I did the hallway in sage green some time back. It looked great, but with seven doors, four of which are mostly closed, it was too dark. Then I saw this lovely colour, lemon sorbet, and thought it would do the job to lighten things up.

First coat, still green. Second coat, a sort of lime green. Third coat, lemon - with a hint of mint. I have just enough left to thin out and give a final once over. Whatever it looks like: that's it.

An extra few quid and I could have had some decent paint to do the job in one or two quick coats. :o

Paint here is very expensive, but we use plastic paint, as it moves when we have earthquakes

Inside, we use the cheaper stuff - and it's all white - everywhere

Sadly, you do get different shades of white, so need to keep buying the same make ;)

When we move ;) :Hi: :Hi: :Hi: :Hi: we won't need plastic paint, as we don't (or not yet anyway  ) have earthquakes in the Alentejo. We're too far inland - hopefully

I'd have used a white emulsion first as an undercoat............ *runs away*

Darker paint to lighter always needs more coats if painting on top of it directly...

Apparently grey is good for going dark to light, as an undercoat, according to himself :? I wouldn't know, 'cos my asthma gets me out of doing it ;) :P

We have to decide what colour we'd like around the windows, in our new house - when we move

Have I said, we're moving soon

I love the dark grey we have around our windows and doors here, but think a bright, but dark orange would look good up there.

Mostly, the Portuguese go for blue, yellow or orange.
