"The Long Earth" (2012) by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. Stephen Baxter, if you don't know the name, is currently one of the UK's top sci-fi writers, often dealing with quite serious themes, a total opposite to Pratchett's quirky fantasy characters and humour. This collaberation, and I believe there may well be a sequel coming, works very well indeed. The premise is that there an infinite number of Earths out there, all of which have evolved slightly differently, and mankind suddenly finds the ability to "step" between them. So the pioneers set off along the chain of Earths, exploring and founding new colonies - but there is something nasty out there in the far distance, and it's coming the other way .....

We haven't done it this year. :( :(

No one got round to organising it and with everything happening with Millie I didn't feel up to it.

I am about 3/4 of the way through The Land of Decoration by Grace McLean.

I started it at the hospital yesterday (I took my dad for his check up) and we were there for so long I got over half way through it.

It is a Richard and Judy choice and I am really enjoying it.

It is about a girl who has a miniature land that she has created in her bedroom and she uses it to make miracles happen in her real life. She has conversations with God about it all - or at least 3/4 of the way through the book it is still God.

It won't happen now as it is too late.

Never mind, double the crap for next year instead.

I am currently reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. It took a bit to get in to, but I'm enjoying it now.

I've finished The School Run, it was okay although I was still confused by who was who even towards the end.
Today I've started It Won't Hurt a Bit: Nursing Tales from the Swinging Sixties by Jane Yeadon.

I finished The Land of Decoration this morning. It was very odd but okay.

I have just started a book I picked up from the bookshelf at the local pub - Twitchiker by Paul Smith. Something to do with a man that went from the UK to NZ by only accepting offers of travel and accommodation from users of Twitter.

The library rang yesterday to say that they have A Casual Vacancy by J K Rowling. I started it before xmas but couldn't concentrate on it and as I knew I wouldnt finish it before it had to be back (and I couldn't renew it as there was a long waiting list for it) I sent it back and reordered it.

I have also renewed my Audible subscription and later will be downloading the new Linwood Barclay book - Never Saw It Coming. I do like Linwood Barclay.
